Rev. Ivy A. Ganaway

Ivy Arthell Ganaway was born July 25, 1932, in St. Louis, MO where she attended Dunbar Elementary & Vashon High School. She was the second of four children born to Arthur Crookshank & Berneice Frazier. Ivy accepted Christ at an early age and was, most notably, an active member of Nash Prayer Band, in St. Louis, MO, under the leadership of Laura Nash. Ivy married Lois “Lucky” Ganaway. Four children were born to their union: Lois “Skip”, Dwight “Earl”, Charles, & Nathan Ganaway. She continued her education in Nursing at the DePaul School of Nursing. While attending school Ivy served as a candy striper & nurse’s aide. After receiving her RN & LPN degrees, she became a Supervisor & Department Head. As Department Head of Nursing at Swope Health in Kansas City, MO, her service to community continued as the Director of the Teen Pregnancy, Foster Care, & Infant Mortality Programs. During her tenure at Swope Health Ivy was showered with awards & accolades for her untiring commitment. Ivy’s service to God continued in Kansas City, at the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ in several capacities, beginning with the Pastor of the Children’s Church. During this portion of her ministry, Rev. Ganaway guided many young souls through their walk with Christ with love, music, & joy. Rev. Ganaway later became the Assistant Pastor of the church. During that time, she was called upon to serve as acting Pastor for a period. On May 25, 2024, Rev. Ivy Ganaway received her wings & danced her way to glory. She is preceded by her husband, Lucky, sister, Audria “Jean” (Booker), sons, Lois & Dwight, & several other family members – unfortunately too many to list. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 sons, Charles & Nathan (Flora), 1 sister, Olivia “Peaches”, 1 brother, Nathan (Jeanette), 2 bonus sisters, Margaret & Norma, numerous grandchildren, great-grands, great-great grands, cousins, nieces, nephews, a host of Spiritual children, & her Spiritual family. The sound of those cymbals & her praise will be missed. “Through it all, 1 God, 1 Savior, 1 Holy Spirit” Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, 12:00pm at Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ. Interment Leavenworth Nat'l Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation from 10:00am-1:002pm at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolence may be shared on our website.
