Inez Marie Wortham

Obituary Ms. Inez Marie Wortham was born October 14, 1923 to Colie and Catherine Gissandaner in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of six and the only girl of five boys. She was preceded in death by her parents and four of her siblings, Charles B. Gissandaner, Willie B Gissandaner, Theodore Gissandaner, and Gene Gissandaner; and spouse Edward A. Wortham. Inez graduated from Slater High School in Idabel and received some college education from Langston University. Shortly after her education she met the love of her life, Edward A. Wortham Sr., and married in 1946 at her home. They later settled in Kansas City, Missouri starting their family in October 1952. Both Inez and her spouse were actively involved in West Paseo Church, which is now Swope Parkway United Christian Church. There, Inez was an active member of the Usher Board. While rearing her family she also worked at Woolf Brothers clothing retailer in Downtown Kansas City for over 20 years. When she wasn’t working or being a homemaker, she filled her time with her other passions of sewing and hairdressing. As a hobby seamstress, she was always creating new outfits for her daughters. She also liked to style hair, pretty loose flowing curls is mostly how you would see Inez if it wasn’t in her two braids. Inez was a loving, caring, protective wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a personality that would warm hearts and at other times, tickle you silly especially with her creative vocabulary that we came to love and even started using ourselves. Inez leaves to cherish her memory, her brother and sister-in-law John W. & Flora Gissandaner; five children, Sharon Brim, Dr. Edward Wortham, Jr, Donald & wife, Alicia Wortham and Karen McCallop; five grandchildren: Quiahnya (Kiki) & husband, Alex Cain, Alicia McCallop, Aarron Conway & Tiffany Wortham; two great-grandchildren Javen & Nexie Cain; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Service for Mrs. Inez Marie Wortham will be held Saturday, August 25, 11:00 a.m. at Swope Parkway United Christian Church, 6140 Swope Parkway. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery.
