Ms. Florine McClain

Florine B. McClain was born on April 27, 1927, to Gabriel Griffie and Edith Sayers in Nicodemus, Kansas. She peacefully departed this life on September 10, 2026, at her residence in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Florine graduated from Junction City High School in 1945. She continued her education by receiving secretarial training, preparing her for a life of dedicated and faithful service. On May 9, 1949, Florine married Samuel Adrian McClain in Abilene, Kansas. Although no children were born to this union, Florine and Samuel shared a life filled with love, travel, and many cherished memories. During Samuel’s military career, Florine traveled with him to several duty stations throughout Europe. Following Samuel’s retirement from the United States Army in August 1965, they eventually made their home in Kansas City, Missouri. Florine was a dedicated public servant who worked for the City of Kansas City, Missouri. She began her career in 1971 as a Clerk Typist in the Health Department. During her 17 years of service, she worked with distinction in the Model Cities, Urban Affairs, and Urban Community Services Departments. Her commitment, faithfulness, and loyalty to the City of Kansas City, Missouri were evident throughout her career. She retired on April 28, 1989. Florine’s life was guided by an unshakable faith in God. She loved the Lord deeply, and her life was a living reflection of His grace, kindness, and love. She was a longtime member of Skylight Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. She later became a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God, where she continued to serve the Lord and His people for many years. Florine was a true prayer warrior. Her faith and commitment to prayer touched the lives of many. Even after she was no longer able to attend church in person, she continued to pray faithfully with and for the congregation. Her prayers, wisdom, kindness, and steadfast faith will remain a treasured part of her legacy. Florine B. McClain went home to be with the Lord, leaving many loved ones to cherish her memory. She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her niece, Michele Renee Beavers and her husband, Ralph, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; her nephew, Bernard Adrian Smith, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her niece, Yvette Irene Brown, of Atlanta, Georgia; and her nephew, Theodore Willie Smith, of Dewey, Oklahoma. She also leaves a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories of her life. She was preceded in death by her father, Gabriel Griffie; sister, Castella J. Buckner; stepfather, James L. Smith, Sr.; her mother, Edith M. Smith; her brother, James L. Smith, Jr.; and her nephews, Jerome W. Smith, James Lee Smith, and Lloyd C. Smith. Florine lived a life of faith, service, love, and devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved her can find comfort in knowing that she has finished her earthly journey and is now resting in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Well, done good and faithful servant. Funeral Services will be held on September 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary COGIC 2422 Van Brunt Blvd. KCMO 64127.
