Etta G (Morris) Shelton

Obituary Born Etta Gray Morris, June 21, 1916, the middle child to the late Henry Elijah and Suzie Polk Morris in Clark County, Mississippi. At the age of three, relocated with her parents to Muskogee County, OK., and in 1953 she moved to Kansas City, MO where has called home. Muskogee is where she attained her formal and spiritual education. She was preceded in the heavenly departure by her late husband, Walter Shelton, her only daughter Leatha Marie Threat, parents and five brothers, Daniel, Willie ”Big Bud”, Henry Lee “Lil Bud”, James, and Samuel Morris; four sisters, Janet, Gussie, Vallie, and Dawsie “Dahl”; grandson Curtis Threat and nephew Ronald Dean Morris. Etta contributed her longevity to the love of young folks and children whom she loved being around. Along with being around young people, she was from a close knit family. As a nurturer/care taker her home became a home to any who needed her as she took care of her father, siblings and other family members. Etta Gray has always been loving, giving and willing to see after you. She did domestic work in Muskogee before coming to Kansas City January 10, 1953 to take care of her sister Dahl and remained making Kansas City her home. She was a nanny for two families for many years. After 18 years of loyal and faithful service she became the sole owner of the Strang Laundry. She operated the laundry until she was bought out for the construction of the now Highway 71. She was a member of Rayfield Baptist Church, Muskogee, OK; she later joined Metropolitan Baptist Church and then Kingdom Word Ministries formerly Sunrise Baptist Church where she remained as a loyal and faithful member. Etta was an excellent cook and baker. She catered up until her mid 80's for many families and organizations. She was known for her famous hot rolls that she continued to bake until this year. She leaves her grandchildren, Charles, Darryl, Major Lynn Threat and Etta Sutton; sister-in-law Lucille Morris, niece Janice Wilson, Special friends Clara Wilburn, Sharon McDonald, Valerie Henderson and Kingdom Word Ministries church family plus many grand and great grandchildren, and other family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Kingdom Word Ministries. Visitation 10:00 A.M. Interment Twelve Gates Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
