Ms. Emma Manning

Emma G. Manning (affectionately known as Mama Gean), 90 years old was born on July 31, 1934, in Augusta, Arkansas to Jack Tripp and Cercy Lee Tripp. She peacefully departed this life on July 28, 2025, at home surrounded by family. She was preceded in her homegoing by both parents, her husband William Manning, one son Carl Manning Sr., two granddaughters, Charlice Manning and Carla Brown. One grandson, Trevor Shields. All of her siblings, nine sisters Ann Thompkins, Ann L. Hendricks, Lois Tripp, Henri Mae Walker, Nelverna Henry, Brenda Lawrence, Emma Lawrence, Freda Lolles, Julia Smith; 3 brothers, Freddie Tripp, Ike Tripp Sr., Howard Tripp. Emma graduated from Augusta High School. She excelled in academics and was a competitive basketball player. Emma was a long-time member of Greg Tabernacle A.M.E Church in Kansas City, MO. She served as a head Usher and oversaw the Sunbeams (youth usher board). Emma worked for the Kansas City, Missouri School District for many years and retired in 1989. Emma moved to Kansas City, MO in 1960 where she met the love of her life William Manning and they married in 1963. One of Emma's favorite things to do was to sew. She would make clothes for all of her children, grandchildren and anyone that needed an outfit. She loved to coordinate her outfits from head to toe, accessorize with earrings and a ring on every finger. Hair always done and make up flawless. Her Diva attitude reigned supreme! Emma loved to cook and organize family gatherings whatever the occasion would be. She was the Matriarch and family meant everything to her. Anyone that had the honor of knowing Mama Gean loved her generosity and her no-nonsense attitude. Emma leaves behind a profound impact on the many lives that she touched. Emma's beautiful memories will be forever cherished by her four daughters, Diane Shields (Nelson), Freda Manning of Raytown, MO; Regina Manning, Carrie Manning of Kansas City, MO; one son, Craig Manning of Springfield, MO, she also leaves to cherish her memories a host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, other Relatives and Friends.
