Elma Lee Davis

Obituary Mrs. Elma Lee Davis 83, born a twin (Albert B. Foster died at birth) made her earthly arrival on May 18, 1936, to Willie B. and Annie Gladys (Hardin) Foster in New Albany, Mississippi. She was the third child of fourteen children born to this union. The family attended St. Mary’s Methodist Church where she accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Union County Training School in New Albany before deciding to marry the love of her life as a teen, Edward O'Neil Davis. To this union, one child was born, Edward Lee Davis born on February 18, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. In late 1950, Elma relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. She united with True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend C.O. Banks. She loved participating in the Special Effort Club, Ladies Choir and Kitchen Committee. In the late 1960’s Elma transferred her membership to Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Adams. She served faithfully as the President of the Senior Choir, working on the Culinary Team, supporting the youth department and anywhere else she could lend a hand under the leadership of her current Pastor, Reverend Curford E. Dixon, Sr, until her health failed. In 2010, Elma retired from the Kansas City, Missouri School District after over 30 years of service. She worked at a number of schools including Benjamin Banneker and JJ Pershing just to name a few. She loved her job as a Cook/Baker and took preparing a healthy meal for the students seriously. She took a lot of pride in her work. In addition to cooking, Elma loved to fish, sing and sew. She made her earthly departure on November 26, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Country Club Plaza. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Edward Davis, sister Willie Ann Turner, and brother, Willie Foster, a grandson, Steven R. Kerr and great-grandson, Master Troy Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Alicia A. Davis, of the home, grandsons, Troy Davis of Moberly, Missouri; and Edward Kerr of Arizona; great-grandchildren, Tatiyauna Davis of Detroit, Michigan, and Maliyah Davis of Kansas City, Missouri, Sisters Mattie M. Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri, Birdie Barker (Albert Sr.) of Beloit, Wisconsin, Eldora Purnell (Ernest Sr.) and Teresa Hardaway (Albert) of Memphis, Tennessee, Brothers Curtis Foster of Kansas City, Missouri, Jimmy Foster (Jessie) of Beloit, Wisconsin, Charles Foster of Racine, Illinois, and William Foster (Belinda) of Holly Springs, Mississippi. Her care-taker and Niece, Patricia A. Walker and friends Juanita Pritchard, Johnnie Burke, and Ida Bell King, all of Kansas City, Missouri, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and the church family. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church 6262 Askew Avenue KCMO .Visitation 10:00 a.m. Interment in Blue Ridge lawn Cemetery.
