Obituary Dorothy Ann Williams, Also known as Dot and Big Mama, 66, of Kansas City, Mo, took flight on Sunday, April 3, 2022 surrounded by family at KU Medical Center. Dorothy was a middle child of seven siblings born to Carl L Williams I and Mary Louise Williams in Parma, Missouri on July 27th, 1955. After receiving her General Education Development Diploma, Dorothy served employment at Sears and Roebuck Company, The Census Bureau, later retiring from the Kansas City Missouri School District as a Kitchen Manager in 2018. As Kitchen Manager, Dorothy played a major role in the development and nourishment of over 1,500 individuals. By providing warm meals and snacks, Dorothy was able to touch many lives through words of encouragement and other gestures. Dorothy did her job with great passion. Dorothy was a devoted mother, care-giver, sister, grandmother, aunt and loyal friend. Filled with compassion in her own way, Dorothy loved and adored her grandchildren. Dorothy displayed an immense amount of discipline, dedication, and positivity in which she inherited from her mother. Always willing to sacrifice to help others. Especially her grandchildren. Dorothy always kept a cool head in stressful situations and her positive attitude was contagious. She was the type of person that would keep your darkest secrets. Dorothy was a member of the local YMCA where she enjoyed going in her spare time and was faithful in exercising. She also spearheaded an older women’s walking group. Dorothy really enjoyed spending time with her family every chance she got. Rather it was playing cards, or being the life of the party through dance, anytime the family was together, Big Mama was present. One of the things that she loved the most was listening to her brother as he shared the Word of God through devotionals. She was preceded in death by both parents, Carl L Williams I and Mary Louise Williams, three brother: Robert L Williams, Carl L Williams II, and Raymond L Williams, two nephews Alphonso Nicholson, Benard Williams, and Stanley Lister Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her one and only daughter, Latrice M. Purnell of Kansas City, MO six grandchildren; Kelsha James (Jeremy), Richard “Mooky” Williams, Vantrice “Nunu” Purnell, Tonnae Pouncil, Si’Mya Hill and Prince Minor all of Kansas City, MO. One brother; Roosevelt Williams (Barbara), two sisters, Ethel Shelton and Shirley Ann Williams, One Great-grandson, Richard Williams, all of Kansas City, MO.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services Friday, April 15, 2022, 2:00pm at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Private Disposition. Visitation 1:00pm-2:00pm at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
