Ms. Dorothy J. Fountain

Obituary Dorothy Fountain was born July 8, 1942 to Henry and Mary Lee Thomas in Yazoo City, Mississippi. She was the second of four daughters born to this union. She married Joe Lewis Fountain, Sr. and to this union 4 children was born. Dorothy was preceded in death by; her Parents; her Husband; Sisters: Claudine Johnson, Christine “Ledell” Thomas, Ruth Thomas, Barbara McKinnie, Shelly Thomas and Deloris Thomas; Brother: Michael Thomas; Son: Joe Fountain, Jr.; Grandson: Erick Herron; Nieces: Shirley Johnson and Denise Thomas; Nephews: Sedrick Thomas, Ron Johnson, Dion Brown, and Christopher Johnson. Dorothy was educated in the Yazoo County School District and her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1963. She was tasked at an early to help take care of her mother and help raise her two younger siblings. She did what it took to help support her family. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was a member of First Regular Baptist Church for many years. Often times she would beat the pastor to church waiting for the doors to open. She worked for Hotel Phillips, Swope Ridge, finally retiring from the Kansas City Missouri School District. Of course her servant spirit wouldn’t let her sit down long enough to enjoy retirement therefore she worked private duty jobs in healthcare taking care of the elderly and sick for many years. Dorothy had the biggest heart for giving. If she had it, you had it. She would literally give you her shirt off her back! She opened her home to many people in need whether to feed them or to shelter them giving up her own room and telling her children to scoot over to make room, of course they obeyed. She loved going to the casino talking and meeting people, she never knew a stranger. She loved to cook and she loved children, always looking out for them and never wanting them to be in harm’s way. Definitely a tell it like it is type of person and gave advise truly out of love. She was a true warrior that took on every battle that came her way with courage and bravery. Through her several illnesses she was a fighter, a fighter till the end. She will be missed dearly by all that knew her, unquestionably a Queen Mother. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: Sisters: Henrine Thomas, Kansas City, MO; Betty McKinney, Faith Thomas and Barbara Thomas, all of Springfield, IL; Sister-In-Laws: Annie Fountain of Yazoo City, MS and Josephine Fountain of Jackson, MS; Sons: Johnny “Tiny” (Cherry) Johnson, Berchard “Butch” Fountain and Donald “Keith” Fountain, Sr.; Daughters: Josephine (Patrick) Patterson and Gail (Gregg) Fowler, all of Kansas City, MO; 12 Grandchildren, 37 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Granddaughter. A very special niece Monica Thomas, and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends. Funeral services Saturday, January 7, 2023, 11am at First Regular Baptist Church 2007 Hardesty Ave- KCMO.
