Mr. Donny Lee Nelson

Obituary Donny Lee Nelson,Sr., 53, was born on July 2, 1968 to the union of John Lee Nelson, Sr. and Jacqueline L.( Gavin) Nelson in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents preceded him in death.. Donny was educated in the St. Louis, Missouri public schools. He attended Visitation of Holy Ghost Bishop Healy Catholic School, Washington Middle School and Sumner High School. While at Sumner he excelled in Basketball. He furthered his education at Missouri Baptist College on a basketball scholarship. Donny was employed at Pasta House Clock Tower, Frosty Treats Ice Cream 95-96 and Graebel Van Lines. He made house calls to the sick and elderly and was a participant in several events in the neighborhood doing free haircuts and giveaways. Donny met the love of his life Katrina M. Coulter in East St. Louis, Illinois June 27, 1992, from there a love affair began and continued through until his untimely death. They united in marriage in February of 2020. The two of them started their family in University City, Missouri and later moved to Jefferson City, Missouri where the last child was born. He lived there a year before heading further west to Kansas City, Missouri where he made his home for twenty seven years. Donny was baptized on March 9, 1997 at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr. He was invited to be considered being a Deacon in 2016, he truly loved the congregation at Metropolitan and was loved by many there. While in Kansas City he attended the Ea LaMars Barber School. After school he was employed at Johnson's Barbershop and later at Foster's Barbershop. He is a master barber at Brooklyn Kutz Barbershop, the former home of the Foster's Barbershop. He met and made many friends through the shop who always got a joy out of hearing Donny talk about St. Louis and his favorite basketball team the Los Angeles Lakers. Donny's joy came from helping others in the community and at times offering free haircuts the children going back to school and on holidays. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandchildren and uncle. He fathered six children, Mariah K. Coulter, Donny L. Nelson, Jr., Brian Jackson, Dominique L. Nelson, Evian Brooks-Nelson and Trenton L. Nelson. Family was everything to Donny, he enjoyed spending quality with his family and friends. Donny departed this life on December 17, 2021 at Truman Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Katrina M. Nelson, his six children; his siblings, Johnny Nelson III, Nina Parks, (Jose), Steven Nelson, Michael Nelson, Michelle Nelson, Jacklyn JamesNelson-Boone (Alvin); a host uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022, 2:00pm at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Private Disposition. Visitation will be from 1pm-2pm at the church.
