Bishop Daniel M. Jordan

Bishop Daniel M. Jordan was born to the union of Albert Jordan, Sr. and Hattie McNeal Jordan on May 8, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mother Mary M. Jordan; two sons, Alfred Rawls and Herbert Rawls; his siblings, Albert Jordan, Jr., Leroy Jordan, Hattie B. Tidwell, Mary Bell, and Lela Jordan. During his formative years, Bishop Jordan matriculated through the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools where he graduated from Sumner High School in 1951. Bishop Jordan continued his education at the Kansas City, Kansas Junior College in 1953, and at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 1954-1955 where he studied Biblical literature, theology, pastoral care and homiletics. In 1980, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and in 1983, he received his Master of Arts Degree. The Spring of 1984, a Doctor of Divinity Degree was bestowed upon Bishop Jordan from the University of Central America. Ultimately, Bishop Jordan continued his quest for knowledge by pursuing and completing his terminal degrees: Doctor of Theology (1989) and Doctor of Philosophy (1996) from the University of Central America. Throughout his childhood, Bishop Jordan and his family were members of the Young Memorial Church of God in Christ under the pastoral leadership of the late Elder Melvin J. Young. The late Bishop Charles Harrison Mason laid hands on the young Bishop Jordan and prophesied that he would become a Bishop. Bishop thought to himself, “I hope he missed this one.” At the age of 16, Bishop Jordan gave his life to Christ after hearing the late Bishop S. R. Chambers deliver a soul stirring sermon entitled, “Hold Me in the Dark” during a crusade held at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. Shortly after receiving salvation, Bishop Jordan united in fellowship with the Evangelist Temple House Of Refuge For All Nations Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Chambers. He served faithfully as an evangelist, a minister, and as an elder during his eight years of membership. While attending Evangelist Temple, Bishop Jordan met and married Mary M. Whitney. Upon entering holy matrimony, Bishop Jordan embraced Mother Jordan’s sons, Alfred and Herbert, as family. After hearing the call from the Lord to establish a ministry, Bishop and Mother Mary M. Jordan founded the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, Miracle Revival Fellowship on September 1, 1956. The first location was in a storefront building located at 1200 E. 12th St. (12th and Forest), Kansas City, Missouri. Within the first nine years of ministry, the church experienced tremendous growth which led them to relocate to a second edifice in 1965, at 4603 E. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri. With a seating capacity of 300 hundred people in the main sanctuary, the Linwood location developed a reputation for having anointed and fiery Sunday night services that would convene well past midnight. The church became a haven for the Five-fold Ministry. After serving faithfully by the side of her husband, Mother Jordan was called from labor to reward on July 30, 1979. With continued growth, the membership exceeded the capacity of its second location and began holding services at the Ivanhoe Masonic Temple. On June 30, 1983, Bishop Jordan led the members of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ to its third location. That glorious occasion was highlighted by a motorcade from the former location and ended with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new location, 800 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri. A former 52,000 sq. ft. Jewish Synagogue, that bolstered a main sanctuary with a seating capacity of 1,200, an adjacent chapel, a fully equipped restaurant style kitchen, a large fellowship hall that included a stage, and 13 classrooms on the top level. The lower level of the Meyer Blvd. location included a restaurant serving area, kitchen, daycare, a one-bedroom apartment and a tunnel that led away from the property. Acquiring this location required a giant step of faith when Bishop Jordan had to raise one million dollars in one-month's time. The generosity of its dedicated members made it possible for “The Miracle on Meyer” to become a reality. Bishop Jordan’s humble beginnings as a pastor impacted his perspective of others who took leaps of faith to establish ministries. His compassionate heart led him to allow various spaces of the edifice to be available for other churches to hold services. Throughout the 28 years on Meyer Blvd., countless ministries held their initial services on location, with as many as four churches worshipping simultaneously. In December 2011, the church moved into its present edifice at 6300 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri. After being consecrated Bishop in February 1985, Bishop Jordan later established the Midwestern Diocese. Since its inception, several churches united with the diocese. Bishop Jordan continued to serve under the leadership of his father in the Gospel, Bishop S. R. Chambers, at Evangelist Temple . He faithfully served on the Board of Bishops, Executive Board, and was the National Expeditor until his transition. Under Bishop Jordan’s leadership, the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ established several ministries that served the community. The included the Pentecostal School of Christianity, a Jail and Prison Ministry, a Food Distribution Ministry and a Sick and Shut-in Ministry. Bishop Jordan served as a professor at the University of Central America and at Friends International Christian University where he taught Biblical Studies. For over 40 years, listeners tuned into KPRT 1590 AM every Sunday between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to hear the radio broadcast with the choir opening up with “God Is A Good God” and Bishop Jordan ministering the Word of God. Bishop Jordan’s service to the Kansas City Metropolitan Area spanned nearly 70 years. He served on various committees, including the United Way and HUD. Additionally, Bishop Jordan was a member of the Cleveland Chiropractic College Instructional Board, a member of the Concerned Clergy Coalition, the Waldo Ministerial Alliance (An Interfaith Association of Jews, Catholics and Protestants), and the Baptist Ministers Union of Greater Kansas City. For many years, Bishop Jordan supported the Niles Home for Children. As a member of the Greater Kansas City Area Chamber of Commerce, Bishop Jordan completed the Kansas City Entrepreneurs Training Program for small business management in June 1992 through the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Though he did not have any biological children, under Bishop Jordan’s tutelage numerous spiritual sons and daughters were birthed; leading to the establishment of several ministries around the country. Bishop Jordan was known as a “pastor’s pastor” as he mentored many from various reformations. In 1983, Bishop Jordan was recognized by the Kansas City Pan Hellenic Council, for being one of the most outstanding ministers in the Kansas City Area. In 2023, he was recognized by the Kansas City, Kansas School Foundation for Excellence, Reasons to Believe. Bishop Jordan always said his goal was to help more people give their lives to Christ and help them economically and spiritually to discover their highest potentials enabling them to "walk in the vocation wherein they are called". Bishop Jordan fostered fellowship with everyone, regardless of where their ministry was housed. It didn’t matter whether it was in a humble storefront or a grand cathedral, his commitment to unity and community transcended physical spaces. His approach emphasized that the power of faith and connection was rooted in the people, not the buildings they gathered in. Bishop Jordan often joked that people must have assumed the “M” in his name stood for money because they always asked him to lift the offering. Yet, each time he was called upon, the Lord anointed him for the task, and he never disappointed. His gift for inspiring generosity was unmatched, and his faithfulness in this calling touched countless lives. Not only was Bishop Jordan a powerful preacher, but he was also musically inclined. Before Pentecostal had a full team of musicians, there was only Bishop and his faithful guitar. He would strum the strings and sing Zion songs under the power of the Holy Ghost. As he played, healing, deliverance, and miracles flowed through the congregation. His music became a vessel of power and transformation. Bishop Jordan even took the time to teach a few young men at that time how to play, passing on his musical legacy. One of his favorite songs was, “I Know The Bible Is Right…Somebody’s Wrong,” a tune he delivered with passion and conviction. Although Bishop Jordan dedicated over three quarters of a century to ministry, he found time to unwind and engage in his hobbies. For many years, Bishop Jordan pursued his passion as a freelance photographer. Throughout his life, Bishop Jordan found joy and solace in fishing. He was fascinated with nature and amazed by the wonders of God’s creativity. For nearly 30 years, congregants could count on Bishop Jordan preparing and serving his Backward Walking Chili prior to Watch Night Service on New Year’s Eve. Bishop Jordan was a praiser at heart, never letting his title keep him from clapping his hands or cutting his step in worship. He was everyone’s cheerleader, always quick to offer encouragement. Whether it was a soloist, choir, or preacher, Bishop Jordan stood on the sidelines, cheering them on with genuine enthusiasm. His supportive spirit lifted others, reminding them that their ministry mattered. Bishop Jordan was a blameless man, always held in high regard by everyone he encountered. His name was never associated with any scandalous acts, for he stood firmly for holiness and never compromised his values. Even as he aged, his integrity remained unwavering. At 92, Bishop Jordan held the distinguished honor of being the oldest living pastor in Kansas and Missouri; a testament to his enduring faithfulness and respected legacy. It is impossible to capture all of the accomplishments of this great man. Far and wide, Bishop Jordan is known for his unwavering character, visionary leadership, and profound wisdom. His impact transcends boundaries, touching the lives of countless individuals who have been inspired by his faith and guided by his counsel. His legacy is etched not only in the hearts of those he has ministered to, but also in the enduring influence of his words and deeds. Shortly after midnight on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Bishop Jordan heard the Master’s call to lay down his cross and come to receive his crown. He will be sorely missed. He leaves to cherish his memory, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nephews ,nieces other relatives and many friends. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery.
