Mrs. Clara Mae Perry

Sunrise 10/20/1934 Sunset 11/21/2025 Clara Mae Perry (Kimble) was born on October 20, 1934, in Independence, Louisiana to Roy and Albirta Kimble. Clara lived a joy filled 91 years and passed away peacefully at home with her 4 children by her bedside. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Lavarn, Lawrence, Sampson and their wives, her husband Henry Perry, Sr., her oldest son Henry Perry, Jr. and her very Special Aunt Lettie Ruth Gordon. Clara accepted Christ at a very early age and loved the Lord with a persistent faith throughout her life. She trained her children to know Jesus Christ by being a living example of God’s love, through her warm and loving heart, and by her meek, soft-spoken way. She was such a gentle spirit, walking in the joy of the Lord, and admonishing her children to always return to their faith in God. Clara was a faithful and devoted member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Usher Board, where her beautiful smile welcomed others to “come on in and worship the Lord”, until her health prevented her from serving. One of Clara’s favorite hymns, Amazing Grace sustained her to the very end of her days. To her children, she was a Phenomenal Woman, Loving, Marvelous, Sincere, Warm, and Dedicated to God and her Family. Clara was an avid basketball player in her youth. She loved to sing, especially with a group she was in with her cousins. She was an amazing cook, LOVED cooking and eating good food. Clara used her expert culinary skills to work as a professional cook at the legendary Plaza III Steakhouse on the Country Club Plaza. But she was most known for her open heart and open door every Sunday after church. Saturday night was preparation time, and EVERY Sunday her doors were open, and EVERYBODY was welcomed at Sister Clara’s house for some good eatin’ after church. She passed her culinary skills on to her children as well, but none of them can match how she cooked with so much love. Clara was also an excellent seamstress. She had a true green thumb and loved to garden outdoors and had beautiful, thriving indoor plants. She even learned to swim at age 62 and swam with ease and grace until her health failed. Clara was a rock to her family and shared her love with so many people. She had a great sense of humor and was always full of laughter. Her smile was radiant and infectious. Clara leaves her memories to be cherished by her children; Patricia Akers, Jacqueline Simmons (Russell), Sharon Flournoy, Vern Hopkins, Jr., stepdaughter Barbara Hill, stepson Rodney Perry, her grandchildren; Antuione, Deborah, Latanya, Henry, Dana, Harvey, Myles, Sondra, Kevin, Natalie, Samuel, James, 28 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation 10:00am-11:00am at the church. Interment Brooking Cemetery.
