Charlene (Boyles) Lee

Obituary Charlene Lee was the first born and only daughter of Charlie Boyles and Mabel Coulter Boyles, born on November 1, 1927, in De Queen Arkansas. She departed March 13, 2019. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, daughter Carmen Winters, son Darrell Baylis Sr., son in law Luther Beaver, Grandson Donald B. Baylis Sr., great grandson Antonio Winters, great granddaughter Lanaye Baylis, and brothers Vanerall, Richard and Lonell Boyles. Charlene grew up in Chicago and Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Charles Sumner Elementary, R.T. Cole's Junior High and Lincoln High school. Charlene had many talents in her youth that followed into her adulthood. Charlene could sing, dance, play the piano, play the organ, sew, cook, draw and was an avid card and chinese checkers player. Mom was best known for her beautiful smile and her quick wit. No one could do it better. Mom had a way with words. Charlene was very close to her brothers, whether they were playing cards or having a jam session on the organ they were inseparable. Charlene attended Macedonia Baptist Church under the late Pastor Preston Allen Sr. and in her youth attended Bethlehem Baptist Church under Pastor Mayfield. Later in life she joined Community Praise Worship and World Outreach Center and served on the mother board under the late Pastor Clifford Bell until his passing. In 2015 she joined Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under Dr. Alfred White, there she also served on the mother board until her health began to fail. August 2, 1946, Charlene and Henry J. Baylis Sr. (Hank) united in marriage. To this union seven children were born; Carmen, Donald, Jo Ann, Darrell, Henry Jr, Renee and Yvette. Charlene and Hank were hometown celebrities, she was the wife of a KC Monarch and she often hosted dinner parties at her home for many players including Buck O Neil and Satchel Paige. Charlene and Hank loved to dance and dress to the nines as they say in baseball during that era. Charlene loved family gatherings and the family always ended up at her house every holiday to take pictures and to share her infamous cake, peach cobblers and spiked punch, all made from scratch. Charlene worked for Guy's Potato Chip Company as a packer, retiring after 32 plus years. After retiring she traveled, shopped, and partied. She had a very active life. She often went on trips with her friends to the casinos on Indian reservations. And often she won and brought her winnings home. Charlene settled down a little to care for her youngest grandchild Rance Jr. (“Groceries”) who was her heart and soul. Special thanks to Solomon Mills III (grandson), DeAndre Baylis Sr. (grandson), Sheritha Mills (grand daughter) Linda Howard (cousin) for the many ways you showed your love and spent countless hours cooking, taking Charlene on outings, gifts, entertaining her and just your time in the last years of her life. She loved and appreciated you greatly. Charlene leaves to cherish her memories her son Donald L Baylis Sr (Meredith), daughter Joann Beaver, son Henry Junior Baylis Jr (Sheila), daughter Renee Bennett (Clarence) daughter Yvette Baylis -Leap, brother Robert Lee Boyles, son in law Mack Winters, daughter in law Gertrude Baylis, Grandsons Solomon Mills III, Aaron Baylis, Anthony Baylis, Michael Mills, Darrell Baylis Jr., Robert (Antjuan) Baylis, DeAndre Baylis Sr., Donald L Baylis Jr., (Jacqueline) Raphael Baylis (Dianna) Henry Baylis III (Shannon) and Rance K. Leap Jr., granddaughters Sheritha Mills (Aaron), Calandra Brasson, Shelley Winters, Shawnte Winters, Latonyia Baylis, Tanika Baylis, Tamara Baylis, LaDonna Baylis, La’Shawnda Baylis- Rankin(Alan), LaTasha Baylis- Crockett (Ira), LaShaye Farley (Clarence) and granddaughter in law Shelly Baylis. 55 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren a special cousin Conella Coulter Brown. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to numerous to name. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Community Fellowship Church of Jesus Christ.
