Obituary Carol Janice Thornton Bland, was born in Kansas City, Missouri July 25 1952, the forth child to Hazel and Laverne (Freckles)Thornton. Both parents and her brother, Ronald Thornton preceded her in death. Carol and Arthur Bland have been together since 1992. She and Arthur married on March 22,1997. They were happily married for 25 years. They enjoyed many years together traveling, motorcycle riding, and dancing before her health declined. Arthur honored his vows in marriage. Arthur went above and beyond by being a dedicated and loving care provider to Carol in their home for the last 10 years of her life. She received her elementary and secondary education in Kansas City, MO. She attended Greenwood Elementary and graduated from Central High School class of 1972. Carol worked in Hospitality for many years. Carol also worked with her husband in his trucking business as his secretary and also managing payroll for the drivers. During her teenage years her parents gave her a horse that she loved. She was passionate about horses and dogs. She also loved sketching and drawing. She was fun loving with a great sense of humor. Anyone she met, she considered a friend. Even as her health declined, her steadfast spirit was inspirational. She kept her family and visitors laughing to keep the mood light. Throughout a complex illness Carol never complained. Carol was a hero to many, she loved her family immensely. Leaving to mourn her memory is her husband, Arthur of the home. Stepchildren, Hon. Judge Ardie Bland and LaTasha Jones (Ted). Sisters, Bonita Thornton , LaVerne Smith (Billy), Camilla Nelson, Melanie Gordon (John), Pamela Thornton. Brothers Kevin and Ronald Smith. Sisters-in- law, Lella Heard, Florence Lunnie, Brothers-in-law, Rev. Curtis Bland (Donna),Alexander Bland (Shirley), Harry Bland. Nieces: Karol Jarvis, Nickhelle Johnson (Richard), DaShawna Bowers, (Ed), Nephews: Nephews Derrick Thornton, Brian Thornton,. A host of cousins and friends. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022, 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS.
