Mr. Carl A. "Tony" Ellis

Obituary Carl Anthony "Tony" Ellis transitioned at his home on Sun April 16, 2023. Tony was born on June 27, 1960, in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Carl Dudley Ellis and Donna Brooks He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Dudley Ellis, stepmother, Ellen R. Ellis, paternal grandmother, Rowena Thompson, maternal grandparents, Roscoe and Catherine Brooks and brother-in-law, Alan Tucker. Tony attended the Bonner Springs, Kansas Public Schools and graduated from Bonner Springs High School in the class of 1979. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marines for a brief period of time leaving for medical reasons. Tony accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Bonner Springs, Kansas. He played the organ and sang in the choir. As a child he took active rolls in the church as a musician and having parts in the Easter and Christmas plays at his grandma and Grandpa Brooks church. Later he united with the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church for a number of years, where also sang in the church choir. He was presently a member of the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, where his loving baby sister, Sandra Ellis-Tucker also attended. He was very active in the life of his church, singing in the Male Chorus and the Inspirational Choir, he was also a member of the Drama Ministry. Tony had a love for helping and caring for people. He did Private Duty Care most of his life, serving many close friends. and their family members. He also had a love and passion for serving bereaved families which gained him employment at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel for over 20 years. He had various duties throughout his career and the Jones and Watkins funeral homes. Tony was a loving big brother and uncle. He enjoyed shopping and eating, when in the department stores, he would often dance to the overhead music along with his sister Cheryl. He enjoyed going to eat any time of the day or night with his nephew Kalan. He looked forward to attending worship services on Sundays and after services he looked forward to going to dinner at his Sister Gold's house or with his sister and co-workers from the funeral home. He never met a stranger. Once you became his friends, he cherished you. He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Stanley Ellis, CA; mother, Donna Brooks; three brothers, Kevin Criss (Betty), Brian Jackson (Kay) and Dewayne Jackson all of Kansas City, KS; three sisters, Karla Ellis, Cheryl Ellis and Sondra Tucker all of Kansas City, MO; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and the staff of Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel and Watkins Heritage Chapel. Funeral service Saturday, April 29, 2023, 11:00am at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Family hour 10:30am-11:00am at the church.
