Obituary Life’s Reflections Carl Edgar (Eddie) Richie was born on April 18, 1938, to Oscar Richie and Eliza (McGee) Richie. He was one of 6 children born to this union. Eddie grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. After finishing high school Eddie began working at Santa Fe Rail Road as a laborer at the age of18. Later Eddie worked as a clerk in several of Santa Fe Rail Road offices both in Kansas City and Topeka until his retirement at age 62. Eddie married Virginia Davis on June 18, 1957. This marriage produced 4 children, Linda, Pamela, Carmen (Olufemi), and Carl. That marriage was dissolved in 1982. Later Eddie married Hazel Franklin in 1993. Later the two separated, there were no children born to this married. Recently and for more than 10 years Libby Carter has been a loving companion to Eddie. Eddie had a love for gardening, traveling, and just hanging out with family and friends on his deck that he helped built. In recent years he took up smoking meats, (ribs, briskets, turkeys). And had gotten quite good at it all. Eddie loved getting dressed up and stepping out for the evening. Eddie was a very special person who had the gift of connecting with others and was loved by many. Eddie passed away quietly surrounded by family on Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 2021, at Kansas City Hospice Center in Kansas City, MO at the age of 83. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Eliza Richie, siblings: Oscar Jr., Barbara Jean, Donald, Dorothy, and Charles (CB), 2 children Linda and Carl Richie, as well as 2 grandchildren, Candice Richie and Brian Starr. Eddie is survived by his companion Libby Carter, 2 children Pamela Richie-Byrd and Carmen (Olufemi) Richie-Sharp. 6 grandchildren; Xzaviera Vasquez, Laneisha Ellis, Audrey Byrd, Curtis Byrd (Chiquita), Mark Sharp (Renee) and Lisa Byrd: and 18 great-grandchildren, a niece Melba Jean Pickens, 5 nephews; Andy Jones (Pamela), Steven Davis, Oscar Richie (Lisa), Melvin Pickens (Linda), William (Bill) Richie, Donald Pickens, and a host of other relatives and friends whom Eddie had a very special relationship with all of them. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021, 11:00am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the chapel.
