Betty Ann Flackes

Obituary Betty Ann Flackes, 80, of Kansas City, Missouri departed this life on January 18, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born February 5, 1940 in Denton, Missouri to the union of the late Mackie and Anna Carmichael. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Flackes; Sister Ruth Ann Saffold: two brothers, Matthew “Chico” Carmichael and James Carmichael; and nephew, Mark Carmichael. Betty was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri. She was baptized at an early age. Betty was united in holy matrimony to Eddie Flackes, Jr. for 63 years. To this union, six children were born. She retired from Research Medical Center in 2005. During her years of service there, she was awarded ‘Outstanding Employee of the Month’ in 1997 and was awarded ‘Employee of the Year’ in 1998. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them whether in person or talking on the phone for many hours. She had a passion for cooking, and she had a sweet and quiet spirit which was felt by all who encountered her. Her smile would brighten the room. She also had several nicknames given to her by family and friends such as; ‘Betty Boo’, ‘Betsey’, ‘Stony’, and ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Her favorite place to go every year was the Missouri State Fair…this was a Flackes family tradition for many decades. She was the devoted First Lady of Blue Valley Missionary Baptist Church for 28 years. She served faithfully in the Mission Department and she loved singing in the choir. She took great pride and honor in preparation of the articles used in the Lord’s Supper. She made sure the communion gloves and tablecloths were cleaned and pressed. She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, Dr. Rev. Eddie Flackes Jr.; Sister, Carolyn Ray; five daughters, Sylvia McCree, Patricia Murray, Bridgett Williams (Tony), Sharon Griffith, Bonnie Nelson; Stepson, Paul Flackes; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, along with all her Blue Valley Church Family.
