Rev. Archie Miller

Obituary Archie Miller was born on February 3, 1948, in Kansas City, MO. He was the seventh surviving child born to William B. Miller, Sr., and Katherine Johnson-Miller. Archie attended Greenwood Elementary, Central Junior High, and Manuel High School, all located in the Kansas City, MO School District. At a young age, Archie envisioned himself becoming a doctor, businessman, and pilot. However, he soon began to realize that he was struggling with his grades in the subjects of reading and spelling. Archie became more frustrated as his grades continued to drop year after year. Defeated and embarrassed, he asked his parent’s permission to join the United States Navy at the age of 17 years old. He served from 1965-1971 and received an honorable discharge. Little did Archie know, his time in the Navy would be the beginning of many achievements. Archie earned his G.E.D. in 1976 and soon after, began his pursuit to accomplish everything he dreamed of as a kid. Instead of becoming a doctor, Archie worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He scratched his entrepreneurial itch over the years by becoming a real estate broker, notary public, lawn care service provider and accounting services provider. His last bucket list item was completed in 2013 when he graduated from an FAA Part 103 Ultralight Flight Training program, thus becoming a pilot. Reverend Archie Miller accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as an adult. In 1991, Archie received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible Theology and a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Counseling from Western Baptist Bible College. He was ordained that year at Emmanuel Baptist Church. He would often quote the Scripture, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” He believed whole-heartedly that if you put Christ first in your life and believe in yourself, you will be able to reach your goals. Archie departed this life on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Katherine Miller; brothers, William B. Miller Jr., Uel E. Miller and Thomas L. Miller; son, Arthur Miller; daughter, Nancy Cecilia Miller; ex-wife, Saturnina Calle and significant other, Mary Tanner. Archie leaves to mourn and forever cherish his memory: daughters, Valerie (Steven) Umardeen, Gwendolyn Brand (Arthur), Desirae Miller, and Diana Black, all of Kansas City, Missouri; two step-sons, Larnell Thompson of Mount Bayou, Mississippi, and Ronald White Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; two ex-wives Georgia Miller and Diane Miller both of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, James Miller (Joyce); five sisters, Gwendolyn White, Marie Smith, Rose Beeves, Valerie McCoy, and Enita Miller; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends, especially Chauncy Rucker. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, January 20th at Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd. KCMO 64130. Visitation 9am. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery 12:30 pm.
