Obituary HERstory Ms. Anna Lee Knox Liggins, affectionately known as “Granny” was born in Plummerville, Arkansas on Monday, October 7, 1935 to Tugalo and Pearl McFarlin Knox. Granny’s school days were spent at the Conway County Training School in Menifee, Arkansas Granny’s caring and nurturing spirit led her to Kansas City, Missouri in 1955 to help care for her nephew and nieces. While in Kansas City she met and married Frank H. Liggins and to this union two children were born. Granny loved going to church and was baptized at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Plummervile, Arkansas. She eventually united with the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend J. E. Lloyd and for a period of time she served as an Usher but most of all she remained a faithful member for over 45 years. Granny worked several jobs which included St. Margaret’s Hospital (KCK), Emery Byrd and Sears Roebuck and Company. She semi-retired in 1990 to care for her sister. Granny had a passion for cooking and there was some good eating at her house after church. Most requested was her chicken and noodles and chocolate sour cream cake!!! Granny’s cookies were also world renown. She worked for several schools throughout the KC school district as a cook/baker and was one of the original kitchen staff at the Mount Pleasant MB Church Kansas City Freedom School in 1995. Granny would say “when she added the salt and pepper she also added the most important ingredient which is a little pinch of LOVE!!!” Granny always loved to shop and was a very meticulous dresser. She had a passion for clothes and all the accessories to match. Granny’s day consisted of completing puzzles, watching Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. It gave Granny great joy to shower her family and friends on their birthdays with gifts, cards, visits and her very own screeching rendition of a birthday song!!! Granny was an avid Bid Whist player but her card game of choice in her golden years became Kings in the Corner which is now played at all family gatherings!!! Anna Lee was the last surviving child of 8 siblings. Anna Lee leaves precious memories with her Son, Kenneth Liggins (Terri), Daughter, LaTanya Liggins, Grandsons, Brian Brooks, Jamario Liggins and Justin Liggins, Great Grandson, Jalen Liggins and Great Granddaughter, Justice Liggins and a host of nieces, nephews, bonus children and forever friends. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, 11:00am Mt. Pleasant. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A.
