Ms. Patricia Ann Roe

Obituary Patricia Ann Roe, 67, was born on November 16, 1954 in Hollyspring, Mississippi to the union of Ezekiel Matthew Miller and Johnnie Mae (Malone) Miller. Her parents, two brothers, Terry Miller and Malcolm "Uncle Nick" Miller, one sister, Mary Miller all preceded her in death. Patricia was the eldest of twelve children, received her elementary education at Galena Elementary School and high school education was completed at Byhalia High School. Both schools, Patricia attended were predominantly white in a rural county town. After graduation she moved to Silver Hill, Maryland to further her education at Howard University in Washington, DC. It was during her stay in Maryland when she decided upon attending a smaller university. In August 1973 she enrolled in Grambling State University. While at Grambling she traveled with the Gospel Choir, she counseled small children and tutored children with special needs. It was during that time she realized her compassion, love and devotion for special children was deeper than she had imagined. This led her to major in special education. During her junior year at Grambling, she met and later united in marriage to Jimmy R. Roe and to this union two children were born, Jamilya Patrice and Jessica Nicole Roe. The marriage was later dissolved. Patricia moved to Kansas City, Missouri and began working for the Kansas City Missouri School District in August of 1978, working with educable mentally handicapped children for thirty three years. She retired from the KCMSD and later began teaching in the Hickman Mills School District. She was a member of the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church for many years and later united with Jamison Memorial Temple CME Church. She sang in the choir and worked in the church's vacation bible school. Patricia believed in education for herself and her children she was always found trying to better herself as an educator. In 1988 she furthered her education at Kansas State University CUTE Program to begin degree work for her Master in Curriculum and Instruction. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed watching movies, listening to music and singing around the house. She departed this life on Monday, August 15, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospice House. She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Jamilya P. Roe and Jessica N. Collins (Kinard); six brothers, Herbert Miller, Stan Miller, Keith Miller (Tracei ), Charles Miller (Von), James Miller and Jonathan Miller; one sister, Ruby Miller; three grandchildren, Gabrielle Richest, Madison Bibbs and Kenneth Collins, a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, 11:00am at Jamison Temple CME. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A.
