Wilbur E. Butner
Wilbur “Erby” Butner, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2019 surrounded by loved ones in Kansas City, Missouri. Born in Slater, MO., on April 21, 1924, to the union of John and Sarah Butner, he was the third of six children. Wilbur completed his early education in Slater and Dalton, MO. He later graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and soon left to serve in the United States Army. During this time, he traveled the world as a Quarter Master in the 524 CAV Company. He was honorably discharged after many years of service. Later, he worked for the General Service Administration as an Exporter. Upon his retirement, he worked at a neighborhood church as a Maintenance Technician. Erby was a faithful member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church. Erby was well versed in the fields of carpentry and auto mechanics. He enjoyed summer days, word puzzles, football (Go Chiefs!) and Westerns. In his spare time, he did taxes for fun. On September 21, 1972, he married the love of his life Effie S. (Bowlin) Phillips. Together they shared many wonderful years in marriage and the raising of sons. Erby was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Effie Butner. Parents, siblings (James, John, Erma, Helen Christine, Marjorie); stepsons Eric Pride and Acen Phillips. In his loving memory he leaves to mourn Stepsons Gregory (Nina) Phillips, John (Renee) Pride, Step- Daughter in Law, Linda Phillips, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Interment Forest Hill.
