Our loving wife and mother, Rogermae Reed departed this life on November 28, 2017.
Rogermae was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 11, 1936, to Roger Dupree and Ozell Holley.
She was preceded in death by her parents,a sister, Bobrose Harris, and an uncle, Jordan L. Holley, who helped raise her.
"Roger", as she was affectionately known, graduated from R.T. Coles High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1954. Immediately after graduating from high school, she fulfilled her dream of being a Beautician. She had been doing hair since she was thirteen years old. After honing her craft a the Charm Salon, she established her own business, "Reed's Beauty Salon" at her home on East 55th Street. Roger was a licensed Beautician for over sixty years.
On March 25, 1956, Roger married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Clarence Reed. They had three children, Erin, Rodney, and Stacia. Her entire being was her children. she loved keeping an immaculate beautifully decorated home. Roger was also known as the neighborhood, "Watch Mom" on East 55th Street. She worked from home so she was constantly keeping an "eye" out on the neighborhood children. Roger was actively involved in the PTA at Graceland Elementary School. She dressed her children in the finest clothes and even entered them in fashion shows at Harzfeld's Clothing Store. She loved shopping and fashion.
Roger was a Co-Founder of Club Les Charmontes, one of the first black women's social groups in Kansas City, Missouri. She loved to laugh and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was the ultimate hostess when you visited her home. She never passed up a good game of bid-whist.
Roger's grandchildren were a constant source of pride and joy. she enjoyed playing games with them and supporting them in all of their activities from dance to basketball. She attended as many events as possible.
Roger was a lifelong member of Wabash Avenue Baptist church, now known as Bethel Family Worship Center. She loved her church family where she served as Chairman of the Greeters, Announcement Clerk, Prayer Team, and Deaconess Board.
She loved giving and took pride in buying Christmas gifts for family and friends. Her kind spirit and heart full of love will be greatly missed.
Roger Mae (Dupree) reed leaves to forever cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her husband of sixty-one years, Clarence Reed; two daughters, Erin Thompson (Robert) and Stacia Barnes (Derrick); a son, Rodney Reed (Natasha); grandson, LeJon Reed (Mercedes); granddaughter, Brooke Thompson; grandson, Brandon Reed (Marisha); grandson, Kevin Thompson; granddaughters, Danielle Reed and Lauren Thompson; grandsons: Tyler, Justin, and Cameron; two great-granddaughters; a special niece, Daphine Gates (Terrance); a great niece, Devyn Sims; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Service for Mrs. Rogermae Reed was held Monday, December 4, 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Family Worship Center, 10801 Ruskin Way. Interment: Longview Memorial Gardens, Grandview, Missouri.
