Jimmie Lee Hancock, Jr. was born on November 9, 1960 in Kansas City, Kansas to Jimmie Lee Hancock, Sr. and Novella Burch Hancock.
Jimmie departed this life on June 9, 2018.
Jimmie, being a “military baby” traveled with his father, Sgt. Jimmie Lee Hancock, Sr. and his mother, Novella Burch Hancock throughout the United States, including Hawaii, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Jersey, and Texas. The family finally returned to their hometown and birth roots and domiciled in Virginia. Jimmie continued to grow and mature during his formative years and developed into an industrious and energetic young man. He matriculated through the Virginia Beach, Virginia and Norfolk, Virginia school systems, graduating with Honors from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia.
Jimmie was an accomplished sportsman and athlete. He played on his high school football team, but track and field were his favorite. He won many track and field titles, accolades and trophies.
Jimmie was always active in church. It was a way of life because “Mama took him to church!” He was a skilled and talented Drummer and he loved to study the Word of God. He knew, and those who knew him, knew that he had a calling from God on his life. Jimmie went on to pursue his higher education at the University of Maryland, College Park and St. Augustine College in North Carolina. He served for a short period in the United States Army.
Jimmie Lee Hancock, Jr. launched out on his own, a young man, facing the world with dreams and aspirations. Through his many life experience, he became an entrepreneur, a planner, an innovator and an influencer. He operated his own janitorial services, and later became involved in Real Estate in Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia. Jimmie was a church man, and he served under many great leaders in the Church of God in Christ such as the late Bishop Louis Ford, Bishop Barnett Thorogood and Bishop Chandler Owens. He also served under Bishop Ted Thomas, the current General Board Member. Up until the time of his death, he had served under Bishop L.F. Thuston who is the Chairman of the General Assembly of the Church of God in Christ and the presiding Prelate of the Kansas East Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ.
Jimmie met the love of his life, Viola Nichols and they were united in Holy Matrimony on May 10, 2007. Jimmie and Viola moved to Leavenworth, Kansas n 2008. These two bonded comrades began to labor in the ministry in the Leavenworth area, and from that labor the Miracle of Faith Church of God in Christ was born. Elder Hancock was ordained as Pastor of the Miracle of Faith Church of God in Christ in 2010 in the Kansas East Jurisdiction.
God continued to bless and from that small ministry in the little white stone church with the red door, the Greater Miracle of Faith Church of God in Christ became into fruition and that beautiful edifice located at 226 Kiowa Street in Leavenworth, Kansas was where Pastor Hancock with his wife at his side, continued to serve until his death.
Pastor Hancock loved God and he loved the church. He often worked untiringly beautifying and cleaning the church building and grounds. Pastor was a motivator and he loved people. He was a big guy with big heart of kindness and love. His outreach ministry in the local community was outstanding. His congregation may have been small, but they were mighty in loyalty, dedication and service. He will truly be missed by his beloved church family. Pastor Hancock’s Charisma and charm and his “infectious” smile influenced many, many, many. He was truly a unique, “one of a kind”. He will truly be missed and continue to be loved by his natural family, church family, and a host of best friends and those whose loves he touched.
Pastor Jimmie Lee Hancock leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife, Viola; his mother. Mother Novella Singleton; his father Deacon Robert Singleton; his children: Timothy Quentin (Devine), Tara (Rica), Desmond (Nina), Anthony and Taylor; his sisters: Rebecca, Abigail, and Jacqueline; and a host of church family members and friends.
