Obituary

Pastor Anthony J. McGee

Pastor Anthony Jacob McGee was born January 6, 1964, in Kansas City MO, to Cecil and Nellie McGee. He graduated from Southwest High School while working at Edison Brothers Clothing. After leaving Edison Brothers, he began his 20-plus year career in Human Resources Benefits with several companies throughout the Kansas City area. In 1983, he met Ara Carter and they enjoyed a beautiful first date in November at the Plaza Lighting ceremony. On July 2, 1988, he married the love of his life, Ara, with whom he raised a family. Anthony McGee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and minister, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, November 25th, 2019, in his home in Lee’s Summit, MO. After a brave fight with illness, Anthony, passed away to glory surrounded by his wife and children.  Anthony gave his life to Christ in 1987 at the age of 23 and was ordained as a minister that same year. In July 2012, he founded Pointe of Faith Church in Lee’s Summit and from then on was known as “Pastor Anthony”. In 2015, Pastor Anthony began his battle with cancer, and with much prayer and a heavy heart, he and Ara closed the doors of Pointe of Faith Church. The next weekend, and thereafter, Pastor Anthony and his wife attended and joined Abundant Life Church. Over the recent years, he has faithfully attended church and assisted with the Prayer Ministry at Abundant Life. Pastor Anthony was known as a kind, generous, humble, and intelligent man who inspired people with his faith and hope in God. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, minister, and friend. He was serious about his work for the Lord and his love for his family, but he was also known for his sense of humor and amiable personality. If he wasn’t talking about God’s word, he was speaking love into others or about his family. Pastor Anthony was a genuine sports fan. Even without a word, you knew he was a true Kansas City fan by his hats. He was especially proud of his hats, in part because of the teams they represent, but mainly because they were gifts from his daughter, Angelia, and son, Anthony Jr. He was a man of many interests, who aspired to be both knowledgeable and proficient in whatever he was doing. Anthony leaves behind his beloved wife, Ara McGee; four children, LaKeisha McGee Smith (Alfred) of Arizona, Angelia McGee, Alia McGee and Anthony McGee Jr.; grandchildren, Alfred III (Tre), Aliyah, Aubree, Aniyah, Leila, and Antonio; Mother, Nellie McGee Hayslett (Charles); Brothers, Cecil McGee, Jesse McGee, and Rufus (Bo) Moore; a host of nieces, nephews and friends throughout the world. Anthony also had a special place in his heart for his sisters-in-law, Yvonne Hopkins (Maurice) and Helen Johnson (Sherman). He is preceded in death by his father Cecil McGee and twin brother Antonio McGee.
