Mable Kerr was born on May 1, 1923 in Portageville, Missouri to the late Juvonia and Sallie Reed. On January 12, 2020, while at Hospice House she boarded the glory-train at the age of 96. She was a faithful member of Bowers Memorial CME church until its dissolution. She served on the usher board in her younger years and as a stewardess in her later years. She worked as a housekeeper to many families and was an accomplished seamstress as well as a talented cook and gardener. In January of 1990, at the infancy of the Nations war on drugs, she and husband James were privileged to host sitting President George Bush Sr. and first lady Barbara Bush along with civic leader Alvin Brooks at their home. They were presented with Presidential Pins for their continued ground roots work within the community as members of the Citizens Against Crime in conjunction with the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime. On July 5, 1942, she married Lawrence McTye who preceded her in death on September 2, 1981. On March 5, 1965, she married James Kerr who preceded her in death on December 19, 2012. She was also preceded in death by one son, Lawrence McTye Jr. (Yolanda surviving), five sisters, Mary Williams, Daisy Thompson, Bernice Thomas, Virgie Brown, Martha Lewis, and two brothers, Arthur Reed Sr. and Juvonia Reed Jr. (Viola surviving). She leaves a family that is grateful to the Lord to have had her in their lives for all the years they did. Survivors include: One daughter, Helen Byrd and one son, Kenneth McTye (Lavita). Sisters Lucille Evans (Willie deceased), Eliza Reed-Banks, and Ethel Reed. Grandchildren Jason Byrd (Veronica deceased), David Byrd, Aaron Byrd (Sarah), Eric McTye (Monica), Bishop McTye, Kenneth McTye Jr., Apollo McTye, Corderro McTye, Phillip McTye, LaKenda McTye, and John Hawkins. Many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives along with a host of friends. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Linwood Chapel KCMO 64109. Visitation 2:00 p.m. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
