MAMIE LEE WILKERSON
Mamie Lee Wilkerson was born June 23, 1938 to the union of Jerry and Renner Jackson in Somerville Tennessee. She went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2019 surrounded by a host of close family and friends. She was preceded in death by both parents, her son Thomas Jackson, and three brothers, Charles Jackson, Willie Jackson Jr. and William L. Jackson. At an early age of 14 Mamie was baptized at Spring Hill Baptist Church of Somerville, Tennessee. She accepted Jesus Christ and was a dedicated Christian until she was called home. Mamie moved to Kansas City in the 1950’s and became a faithful member of Greater Mount Zion in Kansas City for over 30 years, and actively attended bible study on Wednesday and service Sunday even in failing health. She played a leadership role and was the accountant for The Delightful Group of Greater Mount Zion. She also served on the usher board. Mamie was a Licensed Practical Nurse and received her formal training at Fayetteville County Training School in Tennessee. Mamie was a dedicated Nurse and received many honors and awards throughout her career. She was a certified foster parent and opened her home to over 20 plus children for many years. Mamie retired from Research Medical Center at the age of 73. After retirement She then chose to become a certified, in-home daycare provider to Aspen, Cayden, Julieonn and Sabrina from birth until they were old enough to attend kindergarten. Mamie was a beautiful soul, often described as one of a kind. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, shopping, cooking, praising the Lord, dining with family and friends at local restaurants and spending quality time with family. Mamie had an open-door policy and provided a safe and loving home for many of her loved ones over the years. She would give her last dollar with a smile and wouldn't expect anything in return. Mamie was a nurturer, mother, grandmother, friend, confidant and caregiver. She will forever be missed by her children, Joyce Kinsey Koger (Dale Koger), Leonard Holloway, Eugene Jackson (Tye Jackson), Jerry Wilkerson (Debra Wilkerson), and Larry Wiggins; eight sisters, Luecrethia Stennis (Carl), Odessa Jones, Cora Watson, Annie Jackson Wooden (Dean), Reola Payne (Bishop Payne), Mary Wilkerson, Eanene Jackson, Ella B. Manson (Tony); two brothers, Willie C. Jackson (Bobby Jean), and Reverend Elvis Esg. Jackson (Sandra). She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends to cherish her memory. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church 4600 Cleveland Avenue KCMO. 64130. Visitation 10:00a.m. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery.
