Obituary

Lorene Mae (Ellis) McCarther (affectionately known as Dolly) was born April 20, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri to Clarence and Wilma Ellis. She was the second of seven children. Both preceded her in death. Lorene was united in marriage to Sidney B. McCarther and they were blessed with two wonderful sons; Terry D. McCarther and Jeffrey A. McCarther.  Lorene (Dolly) lived in Kansas City, most of her life and graduated from Central High School in 1963. She went on to earn an associate degree as a Certified Dental Assistant from Penn Valley Community College. She worked as a certified dental assistant for over 20 years and then decided she liked being a stay at home wife better and convinced her husband that she could save him more money by staying home performing some of the duties that he hired others to do. She said by being a stay at home wife she was able to transfer freely with her husband when the job moved them from Kansas City to Des Moines Iowa (where she accepted Christ as her savior, a True Bible Baptist Church) and then to Tulsa, Oklahoma. However, upon hubby’s retirement she insisted they move back to Kansas City to be close to family and friends. Dolly loved to entertain her family and friends. Often all they did was sit around and converse. Dolly also loved playing yard games and would always encourage her girlfriends to play which many did until her health started to fail. She especially loved her siblings and would often invite them over just to be close and have fun. The real love of her life beyond Sidney, was her sons, daughters in laws and her grandkids. She loved playing cards and winning tirelessly. They loved teasing each other about who would be the victor the next time we met together. Lorene was an active member of Grace Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health start failing several months ago. She loved to help in various areas as long, as she did not have to be responsible for leading the ministry and could come and go freely. Dolly departed this life peacefully on November 21, 2019 and went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory husband; Sidney McCarther, two sons; Terry D. McCarther (Sandra) of Youngsville, NC and Jeffrey A. McCarther (Marsha), of Bloomington, IL, two brothers; Robert Ellis (Kansas City, MO and Al Ellis (St. Roberts, MO) four sister; Vida Ellis (Oakland, CA), Shirley Ellis, Deborah Ellis and Diana Ellis all of Kansas City, Missouri, three grandchildren; Danielle Cameron (Danon), Andrea Parks (Tony) and Mariah McCarther, a grandson Jared McCarther, two great grandsons, two great granddaughters, and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Grace Baptist Church 8524 Blue Ridge Blvd. KCMO.  Interment 2:00 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery 20109 Bus, Mo-13 Higginsville, Missouri 64037.
