Lola Jane McKinnon, née Neal, was born on July 27, 1949 in Bonner Springs, Kansas to Katy Neal and James D. Neal, Sr.
Lola departed this earthly life on August 1, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Katy Neal and James D. Neal, Sr., and her sisters, Catherine Farnsworth and Vivian Jackson.
Lola spent her youth in Bonner Springs, Kansas and attended public school in that area. Upon her graduation from Bonner Springs High School in 1967, Lola attended Emporia State College (now University) where she earned her Degree in Education. She taught Home Economics for a time in the Bonner Springs and Kansas City, Kansas school districts.
In 1976 she began working for the Social Security Administration as a Benefits Authorizer, and retired as a Management Analyst in 2013, after thirty-seven years of employment with the federal government.
In 1982 she was united in marriage with Booker T. McKinnon, and they subsequently became parents to a son and a daughter. Lola was a devoted mother to her children, and joyfully doted on her three grandchildren.
Lola loved to sew and was always thrilled at the discovery of a new pattern. She collected cookbooks and was always excited to find new recipes to try, or cookbooks to add to her collection. Lola cherished the special times she spent baking with her grandchildren.
Lola McKinnon leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Booker T. McKinnon; her daughter, Amber McKinnon; her son, Devin McKinnon; her grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jaden and Emarie, her brother, James D. Neal, Jr., and a host of relatives and friends.
Memorial Service for Lola Jane McKinnon will be held Thursday, August 9, 3:00 p.m. at the Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Funeral Chapel, 1800 E. Linwood Blvd.
