Louis “Okra Slick” Reed was born on March 16, 1946 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the union of Louis and Louise Clark Reed. Louis was 73 years old when he passed away at the John Knox Village Hospice House of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. As a young boy the family attended Truelight Missionary Baptist Church where he was baptized by Reverend Weaver. Louis and his wife Rosetta were happily married for 51 years and enjoyed fishing and camping.
In 1966 Louis moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he was employed at Morgan Foundry/Clay and Bailey as a molder, America Flour Mill as a loader and Ford Motor Company as an assembly line worker, retiring after 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosetta Reed a brother Otis Morgan and his sister Patris Reed.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his sons, Charles Levelle Johnson, Lewis (Pookie) Reed III; his daughter Rosetta (Pickle) Reed, all of Kansas City, Missouri; four sisters, Barbara (Sideeq, Sr.) Amir, Lou Alice Reed, both of Gary, Indiana, Cherry Reed of Kansas City, Missouri and Mattie Bell of Jackson, Michigan; five brothers, Russell (Juanita) Reed, Herbert (Bonnie) Reed, Albert Reed all of Kansas City, Missouri, George (Victoria) Reed of Forney, Texas, and Thomas Reed of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church 4444 Woodland Ave, Kansas City, MO 64110. Visitation 9:00 A.M. Interment Forest Hill Calvary Cemetery.
