Kimaru Maitho was born on May 30, 1968 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kimaru departed this life on May 8, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his father, Macho Kimaru.
Kimaru attended Nairobi Primary School before proceeding to Nairobi School for secondary education. He later attended Kanunga High School for his Baccalaureate (A-Levels) Diploma. In 1987 he joined his mother, Wanjira Karobia in California, USA where he stayed for several years before relocating to Kansas.
He attended Flint Hills Vocational College in Emporia, Kansas and Butler County Community College in Eldorado, Kansas where he acquired his Nursing education.
Kimaru worked in various hospitals and health agencies as a Registered Nurse in Wichita, Kansas and later in Kansas City. In his later years he operated a transportation business.
Kimaru will be remembered for his generous and welcoming spirit, especially towards new arrivals from his home country of Kenya. He opened the doors to his home in Wichita, Kansas to many Kenyan immigrants, offering not just shelter and material comfort but words of encouragement and useful advice on life in a new country. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Kimaru Maitho was the beloved father of two sons, Maitho Kimaru and Kamau Kimaru; one daughter, Wanjira Kimaru; his mother, Wanjira Karobia; siblings: Kariuki Kimaru, Mark Kimaru, Inga Kimaru, Daniella Munene, and Alexander Kimaru.
Funeral Service for Kimaru Maitho will be held Saturday, May 26, 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Resurrection, 13720 Roe, Leawood, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 09:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Church.
