Katherine McKinnie Hayes was born on July 14, 1923, in Pikeville, North Carolina to the late Alfonzo and Corrine Harris McKinnie.
She transcended into eternal res,t Friday, November 3, 2017, at 6:05 AM, in the loving arms of her baby daughter in Meridian, Idaho.
Katherine graduated from Fremont High School, Wayne County, North Carolina. She was united in Holy Matrimony in 1946, to the late Charlie Mayfield Hayes. To this union five boys and one girl were born.
She was a faithful member of Palestine Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Abel, until her health failed.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonzo and Corrine Harris McKinnie, both of Goldsboro, North Carolina, husband, Charlie Mayfield Hayes, two sons, Calvin Hayes of Kansas City, Missouri and Eric Michael Hayes of Sacramento, California, three grandsons, Ali Muhummad, Amir Muhammad and Ahmad Muhammad all of Kansas City and a brother, Leamon McKinnie.
Katherine McKinnie Hayes leaves to cherish her memories, daughters: Audreay McKinnie-Hunter of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Cynthia Hayes of Meridian, Idaho; sons: Charles Hayes, Jr. aka Kareem Muhammad of Kansas City, Alphonso Hayes aka Zaid (Donna) Muhammad of Sacramento, California, and Maurice (Maribeth) Hayes of Kansas City; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Best and Pearline (Alfred) Fitch both of Goldsboro, North Carolina; former daughters-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Katherine truly enjoyed being with people and anybody that ever met her, knew she never met a stranger. She could and did always make feel like you were more than welcome. She will truly be missed by all that loved her.
