Judy Mae White, the daughter of Darthula Dance and Charlie White was born on September 29, 1929, in Haskell, OK. She grew up in Haskell, Oklahoma with her brother Roy Davis, Sr. (who preceded her in death, 2017). Her mother left this earth at an early age and she was lovingly raised by her Grandmother. At a tender age, Judy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
She worked for Anthony Paint Company prior to moving to Kanas City, MO in 1946. She was united in holy matrimony to Harold A. Turner and they were blessed with three beautiful children. She divorced in 1953 and later met Alonzo L. Boykin, Jr. Judy went on to marry Alonzo Boykin, Jr., the love of her life, on January 3, 1955, and joined the St. Stephen Baptist Church; from this union, they were blessed with four beautiful children. Judy was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church for over 50-years.
She was a member of Lydia Circle, Usher Board #1, Sunday School, and Baptist Training Union. Judy was a woman of many talents, but Judy’s most endearing quality, was her love and faith for the Lord Jesus. As a faithful Christian all her life, her faith and her abiding love for the Lord was the center of her life and shaped who she became. Judy started her professional journey as a waitress at Katz Diner. She worked for Harvey’s Restaurant at Union Station, cleaned homes, was a Paraprofessional at Lincoln and West High School, last, but certainly not least, she became a manager for Sherman’s Bar-b-que Restaurant.
When Judy retired in 1991, she engaged in the things she loved, which were reading, keeping abreast of politics, health, and medical information, singing, dancing, helping others, creating new cooking recipes, and interior decorating. She also loved flowers, gardening, entertaining, and most of all taking care of her family. Judy was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
She departed this life on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at St. Lukes Hospital and was preceded in death by her Husband (Alonzo Boykin, Jr., 2009), mother, father, brother, and son (Vickie Boykin, 1961). May the Lord Jesus now welcome her to her eternal home and bring her peace and joy. She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Oscar Turner of Raytown, MO, Kevin Boykin (Daisy) of Kansas City, KS; four daughters, Sheila Turner-Young of Gardner City, KS, Patricia Torrence (Turner) of St. Louis, MO, Ruzzette Boykin of Raytown, MO, and Sonya Boykin of Lee’s Summit, MO; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Herise C.
