John was never more than a phone call away.   John accepted Christ at an early age and lived a fun full life.   He attended Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas.  Once he graduated, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri when he was 17 years of age.  He accepted a position as St. Luke’s Hospital and eventually worked his was up to becoming the manager of the Laundry Department.  He retired after working 45 years.  He did not leave St. Luke’s empty handed, he took with him the lovely Bertha Rhodes, who he met and married while working there.  John loved sports and enjoyed playing baseball and fishing in his spare time.  He was am avid fan of both the Chiefs and the Royals.  He could always be found sitting in his favorite recliner watching a baseball game and sometimes the game just watched him.  He also loved to drive, it did not matter if it was across town or across the country.  He was always ready and willing to take a road trip.  When you took a trip around town with him, he enjoyed telling you about the historic landmarks in Kansas City, and to tell the story in its entirety and he would take the longest way home.  If you were going on a road trip, when he said he was leaving at 5:00 a.m., you better be in the car with stuff at 4:45 a.m.  Our beloved John leaves to cherish his precious memory wife, Bertha Rhodes, his son John (Evelyn) Rhodes Jr., Frank (Demita) Rhodes of Kansas City, MO., William DeShield and Virgil Peters of Oklahoma City; daughters Tonja Rhodes of Duluth, GA., Anne Peters of Oklahoma City, Virginia (Daryl) Starns of Kansas City, KS., Thema Wells-Singleton and Carolyn Nicholas of Kansas City, Missouri.  Also, two sisters, Katherine Rhodes of Kansas City, MO., and Linnie Thompson of Millington, TN; two brothers, Thomas Rhodes of Memphis, TN., and Charles Rhodes of Kansas City, MO as well as nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren, family and friends.
