John Andrew Blakey was born July 16, 1936 to parents Virgia and Jack Blakey in 1936. John was raised in the greater Kansas City, Missouri area. John peacefully departed this life on Thursday, June 21, 2018. After elementary school he attended Lillis High School. John left before graduation and joined the United States Marines. During his time in the Marines, he earned three metals: the Korean Service Metal, National Defense Metal, and the Metal of Good Conduct. He later retired with an honorable discharge. After leaving the Marines in 1962, John began working for the Veteran Administration Hospital (VA) as a nursing assistant for eleven years. In 1972 he began working for the Kansas City School District where he worked his way to a Supervisor Position in the Maintenance Department.
He was preceeded in death by his siblings Maxine King, Jacquilin Blakey, Joyce Hill, Dora McCoy, Janet Blakey and Jamesetta Mcintosh.
