Gladys A. Mallory of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Hidden Lake Care Center. She was born August 31, 1916 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Ella Hughes and P. M. Rattler.
She was raised in Jonesboro and attended school there. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She married Fred Adkins, and from that union she had two sons, Fred and Harold and one daughter Bobbie. After his death she later married Roy Mallory in 1938, and from that union was born one daughter, Gloria.
They moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1942. She graduated from Madam C. J. Walker’s School of Beauty Culture in 1949 and owned and operated a beauty shop out of her home until about 1970. She was a member of Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She joined the church in 1942 under Rev. F. C. Connery, followed by Rev A. L. Johnson and worked faithfully until her health failed. She was the chairman of Esther Circle, director of the young adult choir, chairman of the Las Estrellitas girls group and was secretary of the Sunshine district Baptist convention for a number of years.
Mrs. Mallory was an excellent cook and her home was always the place for family gatherings. She always did what she could to help others and loved to travel and have fun. At Hidden Lake she still was playing bingo and dominoes, at 103.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Mallory, her daughter Bobbie Helms, her sons, Fred Triplett and Harold Adkins, her grandson Michael Thomas and her granddaughter Debra Helms.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Gloria (Larry), 10 grandchildren and a host of great grands, great-great grands, family and loved ones. Funeral Services will be held for Gladys Mallory, on Friday, January 3, 2019 at Watkins Heritage Chapel KCMO. Interment in Forest Hill and Calvary Cemetery.
