DON ELTON SHELBY SR.

Don Elton Shelby Sr. was born November 22, 1947 to the late Emmett and Helen Shelby in Kansas City, Kansas.  Don departed this life on July 4th, 2019.  He was the youngest of 13 children and was preceded in death by both parents; sisters Mildred (Shelby) Andrews, Albertine (Shelby) Cann, and Carrie (Shelby) Roby; brothers Orville, Orvett, Paul, Cecil and Quentin Shelby; son in law Edwin Guidry. Don attended Rosedale and Westport high schools.  He worked as a butcher with Applemart Grocers and retired in December 2009.  He met his childhood sweetheart, Donna Shelby, growing up in Rosedale. They united in matrimony on April 11, 1969 and to this union four children were born.  Don also had a child prior to this union.  He was an exceptional person, with a contagious laugh that made everyone around him smile. He had the biggest heart and would give you his last dollar, or the shirt off his back. He was not only there for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, so many people felt Don was a father figure to them and valued his advice and guidance. He loved watching sports in his basement, playing spades, dominoes, listening to music, and having his favorite drink.  He leaves to cherish is memory wife Donna Shelby; children  Michelle Shelby, Bonita Shelby, Candy Guidry, Don Shelby Jr., and Ebony Escher (Sheldon); grandchildren; Terrell Watkins (Brazille) Kortne Hatcher, Terry Watkins, Dre Guidry (Brittany), Kumari Hatcher, Akaya Scott, Don Shelby III, Terraye Watkins, Takayra Shelby, Cyilah Pratt, Jaedon Shelby, Terres Watkins, Jaxon Escher; great grandchildren; Trevi, Majai, Elijah, Mauri, Khlowe, King, Kaebyn; two brothers Oscar Shelby Sr., and Rudolph (Marlene) Shelby; two sisters Lida (Booker) Carter and Beverly Johnson, and a host of uncles, aunts, nephew, nieces, cousins and friends

  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at The Worship Center 14900 West 106th Street Lenexa, Kansas  66215. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Interment Maple Hill Cemetery KCK.
