Curtis Baskin was born April 6, 1944 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi to the late Paul R. Baskin Sr. and Claudie Bell Baskin. Curtis grew up on his family’s farm where he and his ten siblings tended the land. Curtis attended Okolona Public Schools in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. Two of his brothers, Willie Paul & Lloyd Baskin, and daughter Hazel Soward preceded him in death.
Curtis moved to Kansas City nearly fifty years ago and worked in several positions. He served as a cook at Nichols Lunch for three years. During this time, he met the love of his life Ora Jean whom he lovingly called Honeybay. Following his work at Nichols, he worked as a mailroom supervisor for twenty years at a local insurance company. Curtis also worked as a security guard for sixteen years at several schools in the Kansas City, Missouri School District. After leaving the school district, Curtis worked for Uni-Guard for several years.
Curtis was a deacon at Oak Grove MBC for many years until his health began to decline.
In addition to all these things, Curtis was many other things. Curtis was a loving partner to Ora Jean for over fifty years. He was a great storyteller that loved to make others laugh. He loved his family and loved traveling to his family home, down south in Mississippi. Curtis enjoyed interacting with his family and talked to his brother Wilbert on the phone every day. Curtis was a lifelong music fan and he had a fondness for Cadillacs, and he LOVED tv.
Curtis Baskin passed away on Monday, September 30th, 2019 at the age of seventy-five.

Charles) Jackson, Loistean Johnson, Gayle (Pete) Lowery, Wilbert (Erma) Baskin, Nathan (Vera) Baskin, David (Loretta) Baskin, sister-in-laws Christine (Willie Paul) Baskin, Sarah Hughes, Ollie Collins, Dorothy Frazier, Irene Dugan, lifelong friend James Crowley and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and loved ones.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Oak Grove MBC 4545 Benton Blvd. KCMO 64130. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery KCMO.
