Since her birth on Saturday, July 8, 1944 to Ralph Dean Finney and Kathryn Louise Jackson, Brenda Joyce Finney Jenkins lived a life of service.
Brenda departed this life on May 25, 2018.
She will be greeted in Heaven by her parents and her siblings, Evon McClure, Alfred V. Jackson, Sr. Elliot Jackson and Ronald Jackson.
Brenda had a strong personality, even as a child, which would mold and shape her into someone who guided and directed generations upon generations. Because Brenda offered herself selflessly, she leaves a legacy of hard work, faithful dedication and commitment not only to Christ, but to those seeking Christ.
Having been born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, her family believed that if they trained her up in the way of the Lord, she would always have a strong foundation. Brenda grew up as a willing worker at Eighth Street Baptist Church, in Kansas City, Kansas. There her love for service and Christ was nurtured. She later moved her membership to Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Emanuel A. Johnson. Until her health filed, she faithfully served God for over forty years as a member of the Inspirational and Mass Choirs.
Brenda attended Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas and then attended Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri, where she graduated in 1962. Brenda held Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees in Education from the University of Missouri, Kansas City and Avila University respectively, and was working towards her Doctorate. For over thirty-one years, Brenda tirelessly devoted herself to teaching and shaping the minds of Kansas City youth.
Dwight E. Jenkins found his “good thing” (Proverbs 18:22) and on December 6, 1964, united in Holy Matrimony. Having been married for almost fifty-four years, Dwight and Brenda built a strong union which created three beautiful daughters, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Brenda Joyce Finney Jenkins was a true child of God.
Brenda Joyce Finney Jenkins leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Dwight; daughters: Tracey, Terri, and Trisha; grandchildren: Camile Tyson, Ivan and Ryan Jenkins, Tristen and Steven McFeders, Jr., and Kalen and Cameryn Jenkins; great-grandchildren; Anthony, Martina, Maleah, and Khalil; siblings: Elaine Jackson, Rodney (Rhonda) Finney, Darrell (Rebecca) Finney, Jeffrey (Tamra), Juliette Finney, Clarence Finney, Gwendolyn Finney, Harriet Finney, and Wanda Nelson; in-laws, John (Robin) Jenkins, Jr. and Linda Jackson, a special cousin, Don “Big Jeff” Jefferson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, students, adopted children and grandchildren, other family and friends, and her beloved dog, Biscuit Latrice Jenkins.
