Mr. Willie Bailey

Willie E. Bailey, 68, passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born in Kansas City, MO on December 14th, 1955, to Lue E. Pennington and Norman G. Smith. Willie grew up in a large and close-knit family, surrounded by his aunts, uncles, cousins, bothers and sisters. He was a responsible and helpful child, who often babysat for his younger relatives. He had a passion for reading and books and enjoyed learning new things. He attended Southeast High School, where he excelled in academics. He later joined the military, serving his country with honor and dedication. After his military service, Willie returned to Kansas City and worked for Smith and Chambers Railroad Construction Company for many years. He was a hardworking and reliable employee, who never complained and always had a great attitude. He was well-liked and respected by his co-workers and supervisors. Willie was a loving and generous person, who always put the feelings of others before his own. He loved his family dearly and was always there for them in times of need. He was especially close to his cousins who considered him as a brother, and his sisters. He was full of life and laughter and had a gentle and kind spirit. He had a great sense of humor and could make anyone smile. He was always in good spirits and never complained, even when he became sick, he kept his illness to himself, not wanting to worry or upset anyone. He faced his illness with courage, grace, and acceptance. Willie was also a huge sports fan, who loved the KC Chiefs. He never missed watching a game and was always cheering for his team. He was thrilled to see them win the Super Bowl last year and hoped to see them repeat this year. He also enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, and golf. Willie was preceded in death by his mother and father Lue E. Pennington (mother) and Norma Smith; his special Auntie/mom, Willie Wilson; Uncle John Lee Grandson; brothers Jimmy Bailey and Curtis Lee Graves (PeeWee); and a special cousin, Geraldine Coleman. He leaves many to cherish his memory, including brothers John (Kenny) Pegues and Richard Pennington; sisters Mary, Ethel, and Shirley Pennington, LaTonya Pegues, Violet Rice and Linda Franklin; special cousins Paul Coleman and Paulette Garnett and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in our hearts and minds. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, 11am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
