Obituary William Lewis Gibson came into the world as a gift from God, born April 10, 1925 in Cedar Town, Georgia, a great surprise and the youngest of four children born to parents of Ed Gibson and Mary Justus Gibson. His parents and his siblings Irene Diamond Gibson, Anita Williams Gibson, and Ernest Rufus Gibson, all preceded him in death. William (or "Gip" as he had become to be known) attended Cedar Hill High school in Polk County, Georgia where he completed his high school education. Gip recounted, " After I finished high school, I wanted to enlist in the military and my parents had to sign for me because I was still under age." Gip enlisted in the military and became a U.S. Marine, where he served during the World War II era. Gip received an honorable discharge and ultimately settled down in Kansas City, Missouri with his first love, Bobbie Jean Hunt, and they had two children Carol Jean and Curtis Dean, although the couple would later divorce. Gip had another son with his longtime friend Wilma Patricia Goodseal Alfred Ray. He stayed closely connected to his children and his extended family, making a comfortable life for himself in Kansas City, surrounded by friends and a caring community while working on the custodial staff of several schools in Kansas City, the last being Southeast High, where he worked until retirement. Gip's life continued to thrive as he became a grandfather and great-grandfather. During his 95 years of living he traveled to visit and celebrate family visiting his daughter, grand daughter, grandson's marriage and great-grand children in California. Also in his travels he visited his elder son being ordained as a minister in Maryland and marriage where he met his new in-laws in South Carolina. He found pleasure when he traveled to visit his nieces and nephews in Georgia and telling stories of his life growing up in his small town. In his latter years Gip was in reasonably good health and mentally sharp. He enjoyed calling family and friends to check in, share a few words, and to let them know that he cared. After a short term hospital stay, Gip spent his last days fighting the battle against the Covid-19 virus, and Gip elected to give up the ghost to see Jesus face-to-face. Gip leaves behind his ex-wife Bobbie Jean (Hunt) King, sister-in-law Maxine Phillips, daughter Carol Jean Hunt, sons Curtis Dean (Hunt) King (Andrea), Alfred Ray Goodseal, grandchildren Juanita Ford, Lamar Ford (Stacy), great-grandchildren Lamar Ford Jr, Savannah Ford, Liam Ford, extended family Charles King, Roberta King, Latonya King, Wilma Patricia Goodseal, Jackie Goodseal, Naomi Hill, friends: The Clarks, Jack Austin, a host of neices, nephews, cousins and friends in California and Georgia. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 7th at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Linwood Chapel. Visitation 9:00 AM. Interment 12:30 PM Leavenworth National Cemetery.
