Wanda (Lawrence) Richardson

Obituary Wanda Lawrence Richardson was born on December 1, 1929 to Cordelia Ann (Fields) and William Lawrence in Hominy, Oklahoma. Her parents, two brothers, and two children and two granddaughters have preceded her in death. Wanda Richardson departed this life on November 21, 2019. Wanda attended school in Hominy, Oklahoma. She accepted Christ at an early age as her Lord and Savior with the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma. She met and married Mr. David C. Humphrey, and to this union, the Lord blessed them with six children. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1965 to seek better opportunities for themselves and their children and establish residence there. Wanda and her children, then united with the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Reverend Earl Abel of Kansas City, Missouri. Wanda had a beautiful operatic voice and loved to sing with the Ladies’ Chorus there. Wanda returned to her education, and completed, C&A Training while still in Hominy, Oklahoma. Upon moving to Kansas City, Missouri, she then completed training as a LPN and Certified Operating Room Technician (C.O.R.T.), and worked for many years in the surgery department, and as an LPN at various hospitals in the Kansas City metro area and finally as a private duty nurse and nursing home Supervisor in the metro area. Wanda was a very good baker and made many cakes, pies, candies, and homemade rolls, which she would lovingly prepare for her family, friends and neighbors. Her specialty was her “potato” rolls, which everyone loved to receive. Whenever she would hear of or taste a new recipe that she liked, she would rush home to make it for her family as well. Two of Wanda’s children have preceded her in death: Cordelia Ann Weaver (Roger) of Dallas, Texas, and William Lionel Humphrey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Wanda leaves to cherish her memory two sons, David C. Humphrey, Jr. (Britta), and Ronald A. Humphrey of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Sharon P. (Humphrey) Mack of St. Louis, Missouri, and Phyllis G. (Humphrey) Muturi of Kansas City, Missouri; her grand-children, David C. Humphrey, III, Yuan (Ronald) Humphrey, Phillip Perkins, Raymond Jones, Matthew (Shameeka) Mitchell, Sonya Vann, Kimberly Humphrey, Naphish Wilson and many great and great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church 3619 E. 39 Street KCMO 64128. Visitation 10:00 a.m. Interment in Hominy, Oklahoma.
