Mr. W. Eugene McBride

Obituary Wilmer Eugene McBride,76, was born on July 31, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri at Wheatley Hospital to the union of Wilmer and Georgianna McBride. His parents, one brother, James McBride,one uncle, Wallace McBride,one aunt, Mae Doll McBride, nephew, who he adored very much Albert Rush, Jr., three nieces, Alonda (Cheri), Latoya Wright and LaShonda Chay Johnson and a very dear friend, Evangelist Teresa McClendon, singer/organist all preceded him in death. Eugene, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the Kansas City public schools, attending Attucks, Wendell Phillips and D. A. Holmes Elementary Schools and Central High School. After high school he pursued a career in the healthcare field, where he became certified as a healthcare technician. He assisted and took care of others who were pursuing careers in the healthcare field. Eugene received a lot of recognition for his work in the healthcare field attending classes at Penn Valley Community College Nursing Program, Vencor Hospital, Stafford College Nursing Program, Missouri Dept. of Mental Health Medication Administration & Behavior Management, Physical Crisis Intervention, Kansas City College of Medical and Dental Careers Nursing Program just to name a few. Eugene was a very talented and gifted musician playing both piano and organ, as a very young child he learned to play the piano by ear. Relatives would sit him up on the piano bench and play, then he would follow suit playing what he heard. He was self taught, at the age 13 he would go from church to church, that's how he got his start playing at various churches throughout the city. He also played for various gospel groups as well, such as the Gospel Muzzets and The Exalters of Christ. He also played for several churches around the city, Christ Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Leonard Simon, Highland Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Kenneth E. Ray, Gethsemane COGIC under the leadership of Rev. A. L. Scott, Grace of Unlimited Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Albert L. Johnson, Jr., Divine Connection Church Worldwide Ministry, Beauty of Holiness New Testament Church and Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church just to name a few. He was also blessed to play with many local artist, Michael Charles, Annetta Washington and David Lee Porter. Eugene loved the finest things in life, especially his cars. He was employed as a nurse assistant for many years in various hospitals. His last employment was at Research Medical Center and Research Psychiatric Hospital until his health began to fail. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the St. Joseph Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memory, four sisters, Joann Banks (Alonzo), Joyce Rush and Carolyn Johnson all of Kansas City, MO and Jacqueline James (O.V. Robinson), Ft. Worth, TX; a special niece who was like a daughter, Latosha McBride-Lee (Charles); great nephew who was like a son, Tiree McBride, Kansas City, MO; eight nephews, seven nieces, twenty great nephews, seventeen great nieces, seven great great nephews, fourteen great great nieces; best friend for over 70 years, Oliver Allen, a host of cousins from St. Louis, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina and Washington who had a bond that could never be broken, his extended families, church families, singers and groups whom he loved dearly. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021, 11:00am at Blue Valley Missionary Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00am-11:00am .
