Ms. Virginia Thomas

Virginia Ruth Locke Ford Thomas was born on October 29,1941, in Kansas City, MO to the union of Charles V Locke and Sylpha Watts Locke. Both preceded her in death. Virginia grew up in the Kansas City Missouri area and attended Attucks Elementary School. She also attended Eliza Kelly elementary School in Joliet Illinois for a year. She then went to RT Coles Junior High, after that she attended Central High school where she graduated with the great class of 1959. After college, Virginia worked various jobs in the social work field. She was hired by the State of Missouri and worked there until her retirement in 2001. Virginia accepted Christ at a very early age. She was an active member of the Historical Centennial United Methodist Church until her health started to decline. Even though she couldn’t attend in person she made sure to watch it faithfully on-line every chance she got. Virginia was in various choirs and social clubs, including the Genesis choir, Gospel Choir, Pearls, the Praise team, United Women in Faith, The GAMS, The Ladies of 59 Plus. In October 1962, Virginia married Leroy L Ford, to this union they had four children. In May 1984, she married John Lee Thomas, this loving, happy union lasted 15yrs until his death in 1999. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John, three brothers, Thethel, Charles, and Marion Locke, two grandsons, Michael Griswold and Anthony Ford Jr and one niece, Ruth Harlmon. Virginia was loved by all and will be missed by her family and friends. She was a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, a loving sister, and the “ROCK” of our family. Her passing leaves a great void in our lives. She leaves to cherish in her memory her children, Sylpha Renee Thompson (Michael), Anthony Ford, Michael Ford and Teresa Ford, all of Kansas City, MO, Linda Guerin (Michael) of Jacksonville, FL, Lisa Thomas, Andrea Thomas, Quanettra Purdy, John Thomas and Jamal Thomas all of Baton Rouge, LA, one sister Blanche Harlmon of Kansas City MO, one brother-in-law Michael Thomas of Baton Rouge, LA, a host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great grandchildren, family and friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, 11am at Centennial UMC 1834 Woodland Ave KCMO. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
