Ms. Vernell Williams

Vernell Williams was born May 1, 1949, in Madison, Mississippi to the late Mr. Bennet Harris and Ms. Lela Bell Jackson. On Tuesday evening, October 24, 2023, Vernell departed this life at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO with her family by her side. Vernell gave her life to Christ at an early age at Old Truelight M.B. Church in Canton, MS. She rededicated her life to Christ in the late 1980’s and was a soldier for God until the day of her departure. She started her education in the Madison County Schools and further continued her studies in Kansas City, MO. Before moving to Kansas City, she gave birth to her oldest son Ronald Harris. In 1970, she united in holy matrimony to Dan Williams Sr. Although they divorced, to that union 2 children were born, Gwendolyn Williams and Dan Williams Jr. Vernell had a long career at Internal Revenue Service for 30 plus years where she retired. She was an avid reader. She loved her westerns and romance novels. She loved to play the family game Trouble where she showed no mercy and often won. She enjoyed good food and spending time with family and friends. She loved her family dearly and often spent countless hours talking to them on the phone giving Godly wisdom and advice. She found delight in giving back by working in her church pantry and volunteering her time in ministry. She was proceeded in death by both parents; 3 sisters Jerryline Harris, Stella Harris, Dorothy Mae Jobe; four brothers Ora Gene Griffin, Otha Lee Griffin, Rufus Griffin and Gene C. Griffin; Son Ronald Harris Sr; Granddaughter Brandy Williams; Grandson Ronald Harris Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Gwendolyn Williams; son Dan Williams Jr. (Lisa); 3 sisters Elsa Jobe (Joseph), and Wendy Griffin both of Canton, Ms. Faye Anne Nash (Lonnie) of Milwaukee, WI; 2 brothers Larry Griffin (Pollia) and Larry Harris (Dorothy) both of Canton, MS; 9 grandchildren Ronnell, Tyler, Jasmine, Kenya, Danai, Ronald, Doron, Tyrese and Sydnee; 4 great grandchildren; A special daughter Tina Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023, 11am at Forest Avenue Church 4300 Forest Ave KCMO 64110. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
