Triphinue Rollie

Obituary Triphinue Rollie was born on January 31, 1933 in Elaine, Arkansas. He was the second of seven children born to parents, Lillie Mae and Quentin Rollie. He lost his mother early on, but spent the majority of his childhood in Helena, Arkansas, happily living the country life with his brothers and sisters on the family farm. According to the stories they would often tell, he would pester and meddle with them to death, and was quite the prankster as a child, characteristics he undoubtedly carried with him thru his adulthood, and fatherhood as well. There was never a dull moment when he was around, but he was loved dearly. He grew up loving The Lord, and at the young age of twelve, obeyed The Gospel to begin the long journey towards Heaven. He left Arkansas and moved to Kansas City in his early twenties to seek out the many opportunities that were here in the big city. He found a church home and transferred his membership to the Church of Christ on 14th & Michigan, then moved with them to 39th & Michigan, where with the help of Charles and Doll Hervey, met his future wife “Candy” Ruthie Rollie. As the congregation grew, it moved to 56th & Swope Parkway, where Tri was active in a variety of church ministries. He regularly visited the sick and shut-in, served as a Bible Teacher, a member of The Men’s Action Group, was ordained as an Elder and was also active in The Prison Ministry, right up until his death. Anyone who knew Tri-Pheen knew that he loved the outdoors, and if you couldn't find him, he could be either boating at the lake, fishing, or perhaps out feeding some ducks, squirrels and rabbits, or just standing in a field looking and marveling at God's wonderful creations. He liked to travel abroad, and would hop on a bus, train or plane to go visit and see something he hadn't seen before. Most often, he could almost always be found tending his garden. He loved to spend his time there. He loved to till the soil to see what he could grow. So much, in fact, that he was once interviewed on a local TV news broadcast for a four-pound tomato he grew! He was passionate about his garden and grew record sized vegetables that he would routinely give to those in need. And sometimes, even if you didn't need them, he would just dump a bunch of them on your porch and leave. (VTR) Brother Triphinue Rollie was called home on Friday, September 21, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Ruthie Rollie, his father, Quentin, his youngest sister, Alva Faye Gray and most recently, his sister Rosadie Henry, all of Kansas City. From the union with his wife Ruthie, he leaves with his cherished memory their three children, Anthony and his wife Beth (Germany), Trinita (Texas), and Vincent (Kansas City). He is leaving seven grandchildren: three from his eldest son, Anthony: Amie and her husband, Gregory (Texas), Micah (Indiana), Anthony, II (Massachusetts), and four from the youngest son,Vincent: Penni, Valynncia, Laila, and Troy all of Kansas City; one great-grandchild, Caleb (Texas); one great-grandchild on the way: Paiden (Kansas City); three brothers: Jerry, Chester, and Terry (Kansas City); one sister, Birdie Lee Wilbon (Wichita); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Brother Triphinue Rollie was a dedicated brother, father, uncle and friend whom you could count on whenever you needed him, or whatever you needed him for. He was a humble, faithful soldier who seldom missed a chance to serve, praise and proclaim The Lord in every aspect of his life. He was responsible for bringing many a soul to Christ and was an example to both the young and old alike. Triphinue Rollie touched the many hearts and souls of those who knew him. We are proud to have had him for our Father. He was a good man. He will be extremely missed. We love you Daddy. Funeral Service for Triphinue Rollie will be held Saturday, September 29, 11:00 a.m. at Swope Parkway Church of Christ, 5620 Swope Parkway.
