Mr. Tonio X. Johnson

Tonio Xavier Johnson, aged 39, passed away on June 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, hard work, faith, and deep family devotion.Born on November 12, 1986, in Kansas City, Missouri,Tonio was born to the union of Tyrone Xavier Johnson and Sheila Johnson-Washington. He was preceded in death by his father, Tyrone X. Johnson; his maternal grandparents, Samuel Hickman and Annie Pearl Hickman; his paternal grandparents, Ronald Johnson and Evelyn Johnson; his maternal aunt, Betty Ellingburg; his maternal uncle, Robert Hunter; and his paternal uncle, Mark Johnson. Tonio's presence, his stories of the Alaskan waters, and his love for those closest to him will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him Tonio accepted Christ at an early age, carrying that foundation of faith with him throughout his life. As a toddler and into his teenage years, he loved attending Camp Cumcito, a Christian summer camp where he built lasting memories and strengthened his faith. Growing up, he also had a passion for karate for a short period of time. Raised in the local area, Tonio was a proud graduate of Van Horn High School, Class of 2005. He was also blessed with the lifelong love, guidance, and support of his stepfather, James Washington, who proudly raised him alongside his mother. Tonio was a man of the outdoors, finding his true calling on the water. For many years, he lived a life of adventure, traveling to Alaska where he worked dedicatedly as a deckhand and fisherman. He embraced the rugged beauty, the teamwork, and the demanding nature of the sea—a testament to his resilience, strong work ethic, and independent spirit. A true highlight of his seafaring career came during his travels when he and his boat crew were featured on the hit television series, Deadliest Catch, capturing a glimpse of the adventurous life he so proudly lived. Beyond his travels, Tonio’s heart always belonged to his family. The fourth of five children, he was a beloved brother and is survived by his four living siblings: Monesha Hickman, Rafeeq Rahman, Maurice Johnson, and Tiffany Johnson. He is also survived by his stepbrother, James Lewis; his stepsister, Victoria Washington; his maternal aunt, Cynthia Toombs; his paternal aunts, Rita Johnson Purse and Linda Hopkins; his maternal uncles, Roadell Hickman and Lavord Hickman; his paternal uncle, Rico Johnson; his nieces, Ta'kiziah Wilson and Gianna Johnson; his nephew, Jasiah High; his great-niece, Ari Wilson; as well as a host of deeply loved cousins and dear friends. Funeral services Thursday, July 9, at 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Homes & Cremation. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 10:00am-11:00am at the chapel.
