Mr. Terry D. Colbert

Obituary Terry Dean Colbert was born to Lillie Henderson and Joseph Lee Colbert on January 20, 1956, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma where he and his younger brother Chevez "Chicken" Johnson spent their earliest childhood years. In 1957, Lillie met Robert Johnson who gracefully moved her and two sons to Kansas City, Missouri where they united in marriage. Terry matured quickly as a child, honing in on many responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning and watching his younger brother Chicken and the rest of his siblings, Tammy, Michael, David and Robin Johnson. Terry appreciated his role as the first born and took a strong liking to being the boss. In his youth, he loved being outside discussing sports and playing basketball showing off his immaculate dancing skills. His parents raised him with the acknowledgement of Jehovah God. He devoted his life to Jehovah and was baptized. He enjoyed helping build the Kingdom Hall Swope Park Congregation. Terry attended schools in the Kansas City School District, Blenheim, Martin Luther King Jr and Central High School where he developed the nickname "Monk". In his adult years he was a hard and dedicated worker with determination to excel through this he obtained his GED. He lived an eventful life partying and thrill until he met Courtney Lynn Mc Donald and chose to settle down and assist in caring for her daughter, Ke'Shaun Monae McDonald as his very own. On November 21, 1993 Courtney and Terry welcomed their son, Stephon Terrell Colbert who he cherished dearly. He epitomized what it meant to be a provider by taking care of his family until his abrupt passing at age 66. He was a loving father, son, partner, brother, grandfather and uncle. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Stephon Terrell Colbert; daughter, Ke'Shaun M. McDonald; father, Robert Johnson, mother, Lillie J. Johnson; siblings, Tammy Hon, David Johnson and Robin Johnson; grandchildren, Christyan A. Burnett, Ke'Ara M. Burnett, Kamorah C. Clark and Zakarian A. Colbert, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022, 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
