Ms. Tangie C. McGlothen

Tangie Charis McGlothen was born May 19,1962 to Willie and Janice Burge in Chicago, Illinois, the third of three children. She departed this life December 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, and oldest brother Rodney. Tangie grew up in Chicago, where she graduated from Fenger High School. She developed a love of sports from an early age excelling at tennis, softball and basketball, even helping to lead her basketball team to state competition. After high school Tangie went on to graduate from Bradley University with a degree in Computer Science. It was at Bradley where she met her eventual husband, Brian McGlothen. Tangie and Brian married in September of 1987. Jamaica was their honeymoon destination, where Tangie’s great appreciation for room service and plush hotel towels became evident. Tangie and Brian began enjoying life together in Kansas City, Missouri, and of course, also began careers. Tangie’s 35-year career began at Water One of Johnson County starting as a Programmer, then Applications Manager. In 2004 she became Projects Office Project Manager. Her work ethic unmatched, she was committed, proficient and a valuable contributor at Water One. Tangie discussed retirement, but Brian could never get her to set a “firm” date. Pledging and becoming affiliated with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority 1992 Kansas City, MO Alumni chapter, Tangie contributed to numerous civic projects and initiatives over the years. Tangie was a voracious reader, with a book or device displaying reading material, calling for her time and attention on any given day. Regardless if the material was work related, or recreational, Brian could never get her to “put that damn thing down”. Celebrating Tangie’s life wouldn’t be complete without noting her wonderful sense of humor. Be it at herself, or others, there was nothing she enjoyed more than a good laugh. Her smile, laugh and the woman she was will forever live. Tangie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Brian, mother Janice Burge of Chicago, Il., brother Kerry Burge of Chicago, IL., mother-in-law Shirley McGlothen of Kansas City, MO., sister-in-law Jennifer Large McGlothen of Kansas City, MO, niece and nephew, Jada and Tyler Large, cherished friends Tina Silmon of Chicago, IL., Monique Letcher-Smith of Chicago, IL., and a host of other fond relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, 11:00am at Jamison Memorial Temple CME Church. Interment Mount Moriah Cem. Visitation 9:00am-11:00am at the church. There will be an Omega Omega Service with the Delta Sigma Theta Soroity Inc., beginning at 10:00am-10:30am. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons. Condolences may be shared on our website.
