Mr. Talyen J. Washignton

Taylen Jabari Washington, a.k.a. Taly, TJ, and Yen was born to David Washington and Felecia Lockett on December 24, 2004, in Kansas City, MO. He accepted Jesus Christ at the age of ten on December 27, 2015, under the leadership of Dr. Lemuel E. Wynn. Talyen departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on May 16, 2025, at the age of 20. Talyen loved Bible stories and was particularly fond of the story of Jonah. He would often have his grandma read the story and he would repeat it back to his mom, dad and grandma, Ruby. Talyen attended Foreign Language Academy from pre-k to 6th grade where the main focus was on the Spanish Curriculum, he was active in school activities. Talyen played the violin, participated in acting, soccer, basketball, and karate. It was at Foreign Language Academy where Talyen met his buddy, Ty. The two of them had countless sleepovers that consisted of many nights of gaming, and trick or treating on Halloween, attending Wrestle Mania events, going to the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and taking part in the Morning Star Baptist Church Summer Program. Talyen excelled in academics and participated in the Talented and Gifted Students Day in Jefferson City, MO as well as the University of Missouri - Kansas City’s Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) program where he was acknowledged for “Thinking Outside the Box”. An avid sports fan, Taylen’s summers consisted of playing in the Mountain Top Basketball and Baseball Leagues, KC Youth Soccer, and Sporting KC Soccer. Talyen was active at First Baptist Church of Quindaro where he was in the children’s choir, acted in Christmas and Easter plays, ushered, he helped with Harvester’s Food Community Drives, and participated in the Kaw Valley District Oratorical Contest where he placed 3rd. Talyen was honored for outstanding academic performance and classroom leadership where he received the Proclamation to the city from Tyrone Garner, the Mayor/CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas, on May 21, 2023. After graduating from Ewing Marion Kauffman Talyen selected the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO where he was pursuing a degree in Business Administration/Majoring in Accounting. There Talyen met his roommates Kirk and Jordan, they shared many good times together. He had a deep love for family and friends and they had such great love for him. Summer vacations were spent with cousins, Shae, Carey, their children Jaelin, Edward, and Catelynn going on road trips, where he had great memories and lots of fun. He really liked basketball; his favorite basketball player was Lebron James #23 with the LA Lakers. Talyen was excited to see him play basketball in Oklahoma City, OK. Talyen and several of his friends had gone on a road trip to Huntsville, Alabama. He stated that he had an “awesome time.” He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Sylvester Lockett; Rev. Bobby A. Stewart; and Ernest Washington; grandmother, Lois G. Lewis; great aunt, Becky Littlejohn. He leaves to cherish his memory father, David Washington; mother, Felecia Lockett; brother, Corey (Ashley) Washington; sister, Denise (Ben) Jakes; grandmother, Ruby Stewart; aunt, Denise (Ted) Kelly; aunt, Bobbi (Kenneth)Thomas; nephew’s, Quincey; Kendall; Devin; and Chris; nieces, Kinsley; and Ava; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, Nyla, and friends Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist of Quindaro 3030 Farrow Avenue KCKS 64104. Interment: Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery. Visitation: 9-11:00 a.m. at the Church. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels.
