Mrs. Sylvia L. Wood

Obituary Sylvia Lee Wood, 84, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023. Sylvia was born November 8,1938 to Elizabeth Pernell and Phil Malone. Sylvia was born and raised in Fayette, Mississippi. In 1955 she married Floyd Wood, Jr. and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. She was trained as a nurse and worked in New Orleans until 1961. Sylvia relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where she lived the majority of her life. She continued her nursing profession at Research Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital and Children’s Mercy Hospital. Her passion was working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In 1969 Sylvia became a member of St. Therese Little Flower Parish. She was strong in her faith and was very active in the church. Sylvia continued to be strong in her faith throughout her life. Sylvia enjoyed cooking, fishing, music, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and going on vacation. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her son Carl Wood, three of her siblings, sister, Lula Mae Malone and brothers John D. Malone and Willie Earl Roach, and ex-husband Floyd Wood, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory; children, Brenda Campbell, Gloria Young (John), Patrick Wood, Jennifer F. Wood, and Tammy Wood (Brannon), her sisters, Emma Andrews, Sadie Brooks, and Berda Warren and brother Grant Malone. Grandchildren left to cherish her memory; Tiffany Campbell, Dominick Young, Nikolas Young, John Young, Carl Edward Stanley, and Tanya Godbold (Marcus). Great-grandchildren Jerani, T’miah, Nevia, Analeese, Elisha, Azylaa, Tamrynn, and Miles, and great-great grandson William. In addition, she leaves many nieces, nephews, and a host of other devoted family and friends. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, 11:00 am at St. Therese Little Flower Parish.
