Ms. Sandra Rhodes

Obituary Sandra Louise (Taylor) Rhodes, 71 was born at KU Medical Center on May 6, 1951 to the union of Samuel Taylor and Bessie Herndon. She also received her wings at KU Medical Center on December 14, 2022. Sandra grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where she graduated from Manuel High school where she earned numerous accolades in academics, biology, Spanish, literature, physical education and square dancing. Sandra went on to graduate with honors in May of 1969. Sandra had many different passions in life such as poetry, writing and ministry. Sandra was recognized and won best poet at the World of Poetry Competition in 1993. She later went on to publish book of short stories for teenagers and young adults titled “Going through Youth” in 2001. She was also employed as a file clerk at the IRS for over thirty years. In 1987, Sandra was united in Matrimony to Charles Rhodes Jr who preceded her in death and to these union twins was born, Charleatha and Charles III. She soon joined Bibleway Church in Kansas City where she dedicated her life to Christ. Sandra enjoyed many things in life and pursued her passions later in life. She loved spending time with her family and having endearing conversations with her mother. She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed watching games with her son, singing to old school music and listening to gospel music. She was preceded in death by her father; Samuel Taylor, two brothers Darryl Taylor and Ernest Clark, two sisters; Cheryl and Valeria Taylor and late husband Charles Rhodes Jr. She is survived by her mother, Bessie Herndon, two sons Clifton Taylor and Charles Rhodes III, one daughter, Charleatha Nevins ( Tony Walker); Five grandchildren Davion and Davionna MacDonald, Erica Nevins, Bella Walker and Day’leh Ransom; three brothers Floyd Taylor, Eric Clark and Alan Howard, two sisters, Twila Hill and Darla Clark- Flowers. She also leaves a host of other relatives, friends whom she loved and cherished. Funeral Service Thursday, December 29, 2022, 11am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Floral Hills.
